I always try to live by never do the honey where you make your money, but then the honey tastes good.....

Last two girlfriends were people i worked with, can save a lot of issues if you work long hours or go out drinking with work mates.

This is complex. When we met, we were both junior enlisted folks in the Air Force. My wife worked in a different section from me, so we weren't "coworkers." Further, she was faculty and I was a student and "never the twain shall meet"-at least during duty hours. We've never been what could be called "coworkers" so that never came up.

There were times I really hated the "rank structure separation" and "fraternization" rules I had to live with. I could have gotten into some REALLY big trouble by just giving a departing female coworker a peck on the cheek. In fact in one of my last jobs, the guy I replaced DID get in that sort of trouble. It was more than a peck on the cheek (a whole lot more) but he knew he was messing up by initiating the relationship. Let's just say that it should have been no surprise to him when he got a short notice assignment to somewhere less than wonderful-and never got promoted again.

Yeah, the only place in the military where you can fraternize w/o adverse ramifications is if you are a white male officer in the Navy. Darn good-ol' boys club.

Actually that's a "used to be able to" thing. After Tailhook they got kind of sensitive to that. It happens, but a lot less often, and in particular the guys are a lot more careful about their behavior. Assaulting a helicopter pilot that might just have to pull your soggy tail out of the water...just isn't the smartest thing in the world to do.

A classmate of mine is engaged to an Air Force pilot who's getting trained at Pensacola. His cadre there is, let's call it "serious" as opposed to "ludicrous" as the old-school fraternizing Navy pilots used to be.

You are right, it's changing, but VERY SLOWLY. A lot of things that would get your a$$ kicked in the Army or Air Force will earn you a slap on your wrist in the Navy.
