LiftPort Group - The Space Elevator Companies

Anybody heard about this? Sound very cool. I had read about it in theory many years ago, but didn't know people were actually working on such a thing.

The idea is to have a tethered satellite with an elevator going up and down the tether into space.

Yep, but hey're running into some serious financial problems. The theory is perfectly sound, however, the technology is not there yet. We don't have a tether with a tinsel strength strong enough.

It's an elevator, not a Christmas tree.

Why can't it be both? It will aid in Santa Claus' conquest of Mars.

It could be both, but I wouldn't make it out of tinsel if I wanted it to last very long.

A bit lame, no?
