Lawmaker shows naked woman during school lecture - CNN.com
NORWALK, Ohio (AP) -- A state legislator surprised a high school class when the computer he was using projected a photo of a nude woman during a lecture on how a bill becomes a law.
State Rep. Matthew Barrett was giving a civics lesson Tuesday when he inserted a data memory stick into the school computer and the projected image of a topless woman appeared instead of the graphics presentation he had downloaded.
Police interviewed Barrett and school officials and seized the data memory stick and the computer to determine where the image came from, a state highway patrol spokesman said.
Barrett said there were a few snickers from the approximately 20 students in the senior government class at Norwalk High School when the image appeared. He said he immediately pulled the memory stick out of the computer.
The legislator said he finished his lecture using printouts and then met with the school's principal and technology staff, who examined the stick. He said the school's technology director determined the stick had a directory of nude images in addition to Barrett's presentation on civics lessons.
"I have no idea where these came from," the Democrat said.
Barrett said the data memory stick was a gift he received about three weeks ago from a legislative liaison from the state Library of Ohio.

Sounds like a prank to me.
A regular memory stick doesn't automatically start a slide show once you insert it into the USB port.

True but if you have a certain program on your machine it opens and displays images automatically. I would put in my flash drive in a computer and the drive is scanned, it picks up the images and auto opens a picture viewing program. Of course its a Windoze based program for the stupid who cannot open up a viewing program.

Dude put it into a school computer, not his personal.
I doubt that this kind of auto-start is the default.
Smells like prank to me.

No really we have this on a few computers in our school...it auto starts a picture viewer by default. No user intervention required.

Edit: Turtle said something with “Doesn’t sound like default”.
Doesn’t have to be. The default is that Windows asks you what you wish to do. It only takes one person who clicks “View images” without unclicking the “Always do this when a flash disk is inserted” option (which is checking as default!) first, then it would do that.

And the really bizarre thing is: In Ohio, where this incident took place, it's actually legal for a woman to walk around with her top off. Equality laws and all that.
Mind your eyes, boobies present.

Was it porn, or did it have some educational value? Would a teacher get fired for showing a high school class Schindler's List?

That´s the real scandal of this news - that some naked women become a big topic, not because that guy showed a whole series of pictures to the kids, but because ONE of those pictures appeared... :-O
A good laugh, a lot of embarassment. But POLICE? For WHAT?

Adobe Photo Album will automatically display pictures on any media you insert into a computer it's running on, and it is automatically installed when you install Reader on a PC. This happens all the time on my school's computers-it's a pain.
Putting two and two together (using some highly complex mathematics and having consulting with experts in the field), I believe that one lawmaker was startled to find out that this particular computer did indeed have Photo Album running and that his boobie files were exposed.

Photoshop Elements and Picassa will automatically scan a USB device and display all images from it. This is the default action for both. I can't even figure out how to disable it on PS Elements.

Someone's making more of this than it is.
He said he got the stick as a gift. Assuming he's computer illiterate (just knows how to make pics and save them), two things could have happened:
1) The folder with the pics was probably there before but under a folder called "Stuff" or something meaningless. Since all he did was save his presentation to the stick (probably by simply dragging it), I'd bet he never looked at the contents of the stick to see what was there.
2) As stated above, Windows was set to auto-start the slide show and the folder on the stick was probably before his presentation in alphabetical order.
3) He could be guilty as sin and didn't know the PC he stuck the stick into would auto-start.
The hard part would be proving he put the pics there himself.

Actually no. I think the idea is "don't use technology that you don't know enough about." If jerkface the esteemed legislator had simply had a one USB drive for his softcore porn and a separate one for his public appearances, the moron the esteemed legislator would not have accidentally spilled the beans. He's an idiot who's been outed as such by his own actions.

It's not that he likes pictures of topless women. If that were a problem, a lot of people, me included, would be in trouble. The problem is that he doesn't know how to keep his personal life separate from his public life. For someone as "in the spotlight" as any legislator, that's a serious indication that he's probably not competent at other things...

Why should he?
Only because your ultra-conservative society says he should. That's less a problem with him, and more a problem with your society, and the sheep that adhere to it unquestioningly, like you.

Well, yes and no.
A computer shouldn't randomly show pics that are saved somewhere on a stick. Why the fark do we think it is normal and ok, just because M$ puts out sh!t like this ? He got pwned because of Steve-farkin-moneky Ballmer's idiotic software.
Just imagine someone hooked up a mind-reading machine to a projector that would automatically scan YOUR brain for stored pics of nude women, and then display them ? Well, guess you should have left your brains at home. Because it is perfectly acceptable that someone intrudes your memory like that...

Not Microsoft. Adobe does this too-to "help" users.
I didn't style "seminude" pictures as porn-the press has had a field day with it and they have produced headlines that make it sound like he had real porn on that thing.
And the reason I think the guy's an idiot isn't that I think he should keep his boobie pictures to himself as much as that in his role as a legislator he's expected to represent his state and his constituents. And if you take a look at his track record and the issues he's supported, his hypocrisy starts to show up pretty well. Oh, and he's now blaming the pictures on his son... Yeah, right. If he's not downloading pictures of naked women himself (and keeping them on the USB stick he uses in his official capacity), then he's not paying attention to who in his household is using HIS USB stick and for what. Either way, he's an idiot.
