So, I really want a .mac e-mail address, but nothing else from .mac.

I went to buy it, and realized that you have to have a full membership, and only then you can buy extra for $10/year. I feel that this is stupid.

I thought you could just by a solo address for $10/year. Poop.

Get a friend with .Mac and pay him to "host" it for you.

I think soo many people would opt for the 10/year option that Apple would lose money on the whole proposition. This way if you want the .mac address you need to pay for the whole thing.

For me its useful, I've had an account since the itools days and while I have my own domain I choose to keep the .mac account open

Speaking of domain names, your better off finding one you like and securing that through godaddy. They can also host email accounts so for short money you get an address you want (other then the .mac of course).
