I was going to post this on Tuesday and the other BB thread made me think of it.

This past Tuesday I pop into BB to pick up Transformers on HD-DVD. I run in, grab it, and poke around the HD/BR section to see if there's anything that came in (RoboCop on BR). There are a good number of people in the store, but no crowds.

I was just there on Saturday. Since then, they put in the holiday stantions to herd everyone around to the registers. This is the middle of October. The holiday shopping season doesn't start for another 3-4 weeks and there's practically nobody in the store. Are these necessary? You know what's worse? There's a girl there directing people to registers that are OBVIOUSLY free. "You can to go register 8". "Oh, really? No sh*t. Gee, I'm so glad you're here to tell me that because I'm obviously too stupid to see that register 8's open".

Is there a point to BB doing this?

Yup, probably practice. The stockades really are helpful when there is a crowd and a line - they're getting ready for it.

I'm glad I don't have these problems with Amazon.com and Buy.com
And they are cheaper, too.

Besides practice, they are "training" the temps they are using for the holiday season.
Since the winter holiday season comes earlier every year they start hiring the temps sooner and training them sooner.

It is dreams that will survive, for a dream is immortal.

Everytime I goto a BB, there is only 1 cashier opens (out of 4). Not to mention, shoppers can't pick with cashier to goto since it's just one big line.

It's a hassle to get new movie releases from BB, Circuit City, Target, or other big chain stores since studios decided to offer different packages.
