I had an account, it expired, and I got a second one.

I'm 99% certain I never actually downloaded anything off the site, either with my old account (which they say is unrecoverably deleted off their servers after six weeks of inactivity) or my new one. It's been a long, long time since I've used BT, and the last time I even used it, it was to grab Linux ISOs.

Now I'm really glad I didn't. I'll go back to borrowing music from my local library and listening to it that way. That's completely legal AND free.

the quality of OiNK's releases and the sheer number of options for releases was awesome and can't be matched by anything else.

it's an inconvenience for myself right now, but something will come up to replace it. just give it time.

English is considered these days to be the international "language of commerce" - plus a great majority of OiNK users were American, Canadian, or British.

Sure, but considering the geographical location of the site/server and the nature of the agencies that took it down, you'd think they'd at least put French and/or Dutch on there too.

Well as much as pointing out the severe lack of imagination the 'industry' has is like shooting fish in a barrel, OiNK was an 'english only' site. To be fair, you'd have to have at least rudimentary English knowledge to use OiNK, so no need for other languages on that FUD note.

Now where am I gonna get Leopard GM 2 days early?!??!

J/k I never even got an invite, probably a good thing if that notice is any indication of what might happen.

And for those asking why Demonoid hasn't been busted: they have TWICE. They moved the servers to Canada to get away from copyright infringement, now the Canadian RIAA has made them block Canadian IP addresses. Other countries are safe there for now.

When I was 16 I spent 6 weeks in Greece in my father's village. One day I made a collect call to my parents in the United States from the pay phone in the village tavern. I used AT&T's international operator line. The phone was a regular phone attached to a little meter which counted off units while you were connected. The faster the meter ticked the more you paid per minute. Well, with the collect call, the meter ticked once, and I ended up paying only 10 drachmas for the call. The tavern owner was amazed. I talked for 10 minutes and the meter didn't run. What had I done?

Well, I didn't know the Greek words for "telephone company," or "collect call," but I did know that the name of the Greek telephone company was OTE (which stands for "Greek Telephone Company" in Greek). So I told them that I called the "American OTE" and told them to put the charges on my parents' phone bill. And when that happened the American OTE told the Greek OTE ("Greek Greek Telephone Company?") not to bill the tavern. Hence, the meter shut off.

So, if there can be an "American Greek Telephone Company," there certainly can be a "Canadian Recording Industry Association of America"

Get rid of that last 'A' and you got it I meant the Canadian version of the RIAA, the CRIA.

OiNK Admin Released From Custody
Written by Ernesto on October 23, 2007
After a turbulent day the admin of the raided OiNK.cd was released from custody. At this point it is still unclear what the legal consequences will be, but it is good to see that OiNK is back home.

The OiNK admin contacted TorrentFreak by email which confirms his release. As for the OiNK users, it is highly doubtful that the IFPI or BPI will go after them all, or even one of them. They do know how to scare people with messages like: “A criminal investigation continues into the identities and activities of the site’s users”, but there is no evidence that they actually will.

More interesting perhaps, how did they gain access to the OiNK domain, and why are they allowed to spread this propaganda? They are not a law-enforcement agency.

NFOrce, the ISP of OiNK, said today in an interview that they were not aware of any illegal activities surrounding the site. They thought OiNK was hosting a streaming video site or a weblog. Yeah, right.

The BBC did a small report on the arrest with a lot of false information, releasing nonsense statements such as: “illegally downloading music onto his website” and “paying subscriptions to enter the website.” The video of the arrest is shown below, see for yourself.

Seems the English are making a big push against these sites. TV-links-UK was also shut down this past week.
