Don't worry about this one.

leet37 was a fresh spammer, who posted long get-rich-easy replies to five existing threads. You had new-post notification turned on for one of those threads, so you got the post quoted to you from MacNN via email.

In the meantime, 4 people reported the spam. I permabanned leet37, and deleted the spam, plus a reply to the spam. So now it looks like leet37 sent you a spam email with a forged MacNN header, since the original post is no longer visible to a regular user.

He's gone, and I'm looking forwards to meeting leet38.

OK, you may delete my post / thread now if you wish.

I've deleted the main body of it, to remove his 15" of fame.

I presume you can block his I.P. address.

I hate this thread. It's been gutted so much I can't even tell what happened.

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

Yes, we can. We can block his IP, his family's IPs, his town's IPs, even his country's IPs. I've done that. Sort of like burning his crops and driving away his livestock. Yes, we can do that-and yes, we enjoy the crap out of doing it!

Whoa, calm down there, Glenn!

To the OP: even if the problem is solved, please don't delete or blank your original post for help; it makes it difficult to see what the problem was and can be quite confusing. (Just a friendly request from a regular member).

Since the spammer included his email address within the spam, you can spam the crap out of his email address. Send him all kinds of unwanted spam from all kinds of bad places. Make him and his 4 other friends in crime misserable.

He posted one of those emails that asked you to send money to his and 4 other email addresses.

Hmm. I didn't read the whole spam. I think it was money they were seeking, but I wonder how they expect to collect money in an email address unless they think someone is going to paypal it.

I remember the post was real long, and not worth reading.

So I guess as soon as some guy sends a spam from the States, we'll all get kicked off the board?

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Except if you're in Texas. That barely counts as USA

He really was a newcomer to the MacNN scene. There was no one else on his IP address, or even his subnet. ie: x.y.z.(range)

We usually don't block an IP until there are a few spammer handles registered on it, and no legit users. This way we don't end up blocking dynamic IPs, which just punishes the next person.

Condo? What kind of boy do you think I am?

It’s a penthouse.

[Doesn’t mean you’re not right, though: I read your post as, “Your mind has a condom in the gutter” at first]

No, because I can also ban his individual IP-and unless he's using dozens of IPs, only the one IP will be banned. And we typically wait until we see more than one spammer on the same IP before we ban an address-just to make sure. I did once ban a huge chunk of a country, but the only traffic we'd ever seen from the large range of addresses I blocked was spam-mostly shoe spam.

But it's fun to ban spammer's IPs because you know they can't come back.

Aren't we glad he didn't get recruited ?

Nikes, Air Jordans, etc. About 100 different shoe types. Prices indicate chinese imitations or stolen stock. We sent them on a hike.

Good call. They can put their cheap, new shoes to use, then.
