Do you curse a lot? I find myself doing it all the time. My roommates brother and wife were in town with their 7 yr old daughter, and she was reminding me (and probably herself since also she curses like a longshoreman) to be conscientious of my language in their presence because of the kid and religious reasons.

I think I did a good job, but as I'm phrasing things to say at dinner I found myself really being careful. Like, it took WORK.

I think I have a pretty good vocabulary and don't necessarily NEED to drop F bombs to make myself heard, I just like em.

Sometimes. If I'm around people that curse often, I'll pick up on it and find myself using it around them. But when I change locales (say, visiting my parents), I avoid it easily.

Generally though I avoid it because heavy usage in polite company just makes one sound like a dumbass.

I curse a lot. But if I want not to curse, I have no trouble stopping. I just usually don't feel it's worth the sacrifice of such a rich vocabulary.

I've been around people who swear a lot and don't even realize it. I swear now and then. Sometimes a sentence just really needs a swear word because other words wouldn't work.

I don't curse, as a Christian, I try to follow what the Bible says and Ephesians 4:29 does mention "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths" I could probably mention a few more passages, but you get the picture.

I know I'm in the minority, I hear it all the time, on the subway, in work, other family members that do not share my beliefs (sister/brother in-laws). The sad thing is so many people who do curse don't even realize they're using the f-bomb. When my kids are around, I ask that they refrain, but half the time they're still dropping the f-bomb without even knowing they said it.

I will amongst my friends, brothers and such. But I make a point not to at restaurants or public places. I think it is so rude to hear cussing from another table- especially a family place. Young men can make a a whole scene of it.

since when did f-bomb replace f word? Ugh how annoying...

In my opinion, if you don't like cursing, it's kind of counterproductive to make specific reference to individual curse words, in such a way that the actual word pops into people's head.

And no I don't curse around small children or people I know will find it offensive. Unless they're being total assholes...

I cuss at all the freakin' freak-headed freaks freakin' driving all over the freakin' place and freakin' tailgating me or freakin' cutting me off. So yes, I do cuss a lot. But only in that context.

However, I plan to learn a few useful phrases in a number of interesting languages just so I can cuss effectively. Swahili, Russian, maybe a Polynesian language... And not really "cuss" phrases, more like "your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries!" sorts of phrases. Or even "I hope you live a long and full life!" Just good phrases I can use, that I'll deliver appropriately. That should be fun.

Only when absolutely necessary.
But I worked through college with truckers during the summer, so I can lay it down when needed and can make Goodfellas sound like a ****** Disney movie.

F-bombs can be delightfully effective though, just as long as kids aren't around.
After all, they're just ****** words, and sticks and stones can break my bones, but names will never hurt me.

Growing up, I hardly ever used curse words, and my parents would have washed my and my brother's mouths out with soap if we ever said one.

Now that my brother and I are adults, we use them all the time when talking to each other. Or when talking to Mom. She just curses back and uses them like we do. Unless Dad is around. He hates it when we use curse words. Unless they're in Greek. Then it's ok.

The thing is, as automatic as using those words is when we're talking to each other, we NEVER have problems turning off the use of that kind of language in situations/places where it's not appropriate. Even if I do something that would elicit a good swear at home (like pinching a finger in a desk drawer).

So, it's no problem switching back and forth for me.

That sums me up. I don't have a problem with not swearing (I don't around my family, out of habit), and generally don't in public places like restaurants for the sake of others... which I don't really get. I hate conservative ****s and anybody who is easily offended, well... should be.

And no, those stars didn't start with an "f".

I only curse when I'm surprised, shocked or ticked off. I think there are times when it's appropriate. When I was in basic training there was a kid that used motherf***** in just about every sentence and often used different forms of the word in the same sentence.

There were a bunch of kids (literally) in my basic training flight (Air Force) that were just as foul as they could be-for the first couple of days. When the big, bad sergeant didn't bat an eye at their antics, they stopped. You can't shock a TI; it's part of their training. After that, the only curses that came out were "legitimate" ones caused by surprise, frustration, and so on. I had never known that "balls" was a cuss word until then, but from context and delivery I found that out.

I'd been in a "professional and leadership" role most of my Air Force career, so I'd learned to restrain my desire to turn the air blue by the time our son came along. I can paraphrase and obfuscate any curse word I know-on zero notice-because of that. I'm kind of proud of that!

Yea, I cuss drop it all the time when things aren't going right, or when I get pissed, things like that, but I also work in a place that cussing is not allowed where the public can hear it so it is not a problem for me to not cuss at all.

I swear like a mofo when I'm driving, really pissed, really frustrated, or really excited about something.

I have never cussed around my mom though...she's the most judgmental person on this planet, and I don't even say "damn" or "oh my God" around her.

Also - the forum flame generator on insultmonger.com is freakin' awesome.

I mean. I imagine it would be impossible for him to not hear one or two from the meetups. I'm sure he's heard it from other sources, too.

from the website i linked to above

I refer to your latest discharge of plebeian verbiage; in which, you have proven, once again, that there is no such thing as unutterable nonsense. Just as the strength of a solitary brick will not save a poorly built structure, your bold typeface does not redeem your craven incoherent words.

Thanks for your contribution, but if I had wanted to hear from somebody with your IQ, I'd be at my local supermarket talking to the vegetables. It's truly amazing the way you never let an idea interrupt the flow of your typing, but then, making sense isn't your area of expertise, is it? You've got a big hole in your head, now shut it. When you are at a loss for words, your loss is our gain. As Abba Eban so aptly said: "His ignorance is encyclopedic."

Most repair manuals are far more interesting than you, and far less turgid to read. There's nothing wrong with you that couldn't be cured with a little Prozac and a polo mallet, or, better yet, suicide. Maybe you wouldn't come across as such a jellyfish-sucking mental midget if you weren't afflicted with mental retardation; if your weren't so fat that all the restaurants in town have signs that say: "Maximum Occupancy: 80 Patrons OR You.", or if you didn't have a face like a boiled Octopus. Nah, of course you would.

Anyway, I'm not really good with fools, but a friend who is good with fools wrote something down for me. Oh, yeah, "Shut your cake-hole, stupid!"

"Oh my God" is not a curse, but there are a few religious people out there who try to keep others from "taking the name of the Lord in vain." Ignore the teacher telling your son to say "oh my gosh," and if they do it again, tell the teacher you don't appreciate her (or him) imposing HER (or HIS) religious beliefs on YOUR son. At least that's what I'd do.

Pretty regularly. I keep it clean when required. Words are just words. I try to use the best one for the situation. Sometimes, they are the "dirty" ones.

Interesting- the person up there (can't be f'ing asked to look and see who) that said they are getting in trouble for "frick" now- many of our current curse words came in to being as euphemisms for the curse words of the time. I imagine the cycle of language will continue.

And yeah, I would not be happy if it became a regular occurrence, but the first time I heard my 6-year old utter the f-word, it was funny. He didn't know what he was saying, it was while rhyming "Upper Bucklebury," but it was funny.

Now the more astute among you may accuse me of hypocrisy- if I don't think cursing is wrong, why should I care if my kids do it? Lots of people do think it's wrong and they would treat my kids like trouble makers and bad seeds, possibly limiting their futures.

It was a simple query. I was curious. Some people on here probably actually feel that way.

I was feeling good to begin with. Still am.

Or tell the teacher that you will not tolerate them teaching your children to alter the Lord’s name, since that is a sin (just pretend you’re of the Church of, uh, Eternal Episcopalian Bratwursts or something—these little ‘odd’ churches that call themselves Christian are always making up new things to define as sins, so the teacher could never prove you wrong). And insist that every time your kids say, “Oh my God!”, they are actually, wilfully calling out for Him to aid them, and not taking His name in vain as the teachers so ignorantly insinuate.
