I hate Halloween

It's so annoying.

Cheap decoration. Cheap candy. Cheap costumes.

I'm being forced to go to a halloween party, and we have to dress up. My solution? I simply bought a Don King wig, and I'll be sporting it with my normal, everyday clothing.

Having kids mean you need to get into it on some level, and believe me, I'm happy that its cheap candy and cheap costumes otherwise I'll be dropping even more $$ for just one night. But hey, if the kids get a kick out of it, and you enjoy it, then where's the harm.

I don't have kids, and fortunately, don't have to deal with this.

If it was only up to me, I'd NOT let me kids participate in that crap.

Wow you really must be fun at parties

Life is too serious, and if there's an opportunity to kick back and enjoy some time with friends/family. What's the harm in having cheap candy/costumes etc. I'd rather be out with friends in a costume party then not being out with friends.

You don't know me. I'm all about fuin.

And I'm all AGAINST fun mandated by peer pressure and commercial interest.

If it was up to me, my kids can be in costumes all year except Halloween

They should just make Halloween the last saturday of October. I always hated having Halloween on a school night as a kid.

So does anyone know what time trick or treating stops if your county has no set rules in place? I don't want to get too drunk sitting out there handing out candy.

usually around 10 at the latest. 9:00-9:30 is a safe bet to when you can turn off the lights

Around where I live, things dry up around 7:00 - 8:00. Of course my neighborhood has mostly young kids so they're not out too late.

Halloween is a great semi-holiday. It has so much flexibility that people with kids can get into that, older kids can do their own thing (but not soaping my windows, dammit! ), and adults can have an excuse to get together and have a party with a theme-and that can be anything from "dress up in the most elaborate costume you can" to "let's watch scary movies and make rude comments about the early fatalities!"

We're going to throw candy at kids for a while and maybe watch The Rocky Horror Picture Show or something afterward. It'll be fun!

I never really go into that movie. I've seen it a couple of times, and well, I just didn't care for it.

I guess I'm weird that way.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It took a while for me to get into it. Of course having a transvestite cousin helped.

We hand out Hershey bars. It's been picking up the last couple of years. Last year we nearly went through two boxes so this year we bought three. Wouldn't you know it, we'll be lucky to finish one at this rate.
