You were right on both counts. I'd go one step farther and get a bed frame sometime soon, but that's just me. Just out of curiosity, how did you dice the picture? (What software/technique did you use?)

Umm...It is "art" too. Style, design, direction, shape, mass and color... Yeah, it's not a Ferrari or something, but it's a cool picture anyway.

When I moved in to the house I'm at now, the guy that had the room before me offered me his bed and frame for free. When I was at Lowe's today, I did look at lumber for a bed frame, so it is the next project.

I'll have to play with that sometime soon. It looks like it'll be useful for a few projects I have in mind.

When I get it back next week it will be an ordinary-looking car that can out-handle AND outrun Mustang GTs.

I loved that about my Volvo. That's an interesting idea. I should do that in my room.

After your last ban, I didn't think you'd be so quick to jump back into being an ass.

how was he being an ass Lateralus, it's a poster that's lumpy. Tiresias was just saying how the poster looks. and honestly, being a mod you should know better then to name call. the poster is lumpy, and is a picture of an ordinary looking car in which the op decided to waste his time to make. if he had framed it somehow to even out the lumps in the lumpy poster he made then it would look a lot better.

yep, and so is preference. if i had done what the OP did i would have chosen a different car, and would have worked harder at making it not so lumpy. room color is nice though. i'll give it that.

Uh oh, looks like someone has it out for me. I better watch my back!
For what it's worth, it's MY car, and it's a photograph that I took. Not that I should even have to explain myself to someone like you...

Coincidentally, I saw this thread just minutes after looking at Craiglist, eBay and AutoTrader for Contour SVTs available in the area...
I envy thee.

I spent months looking at eBay, AutoTrader, Cars.com, and Craigslist before I finally found this 5 and a half hours away. Some people don't get why I'd go that far for a Contour. The answer is that they haven't ridden in one. One of the many things it's getting right now is a new clutch, which means when I get it back I have to take it easy for 450 miles to break it in. It's going to be awful. Especially since I don't have any self control.

Something tells me that Laminar (a.k.a. "Lamface", as I call him either sometimes or whenever I feel like it depending on things) and brassplayersrock don't like each other.

Not sure how tall you are, but how's the comfort level? I'm 6'6" and I'm generally screwed when it comes to small-midsize sporty cars.
I can fit somewhat comfortably in a Focus. But only somewhat. I've yet to get behind the wheel of a Contour.

No. BPR's public statement warranted a public reply. Yours above could have been private too you know...
On topic: there is a specific "look" to multisheet posters, especially old-style movie and billboard posters. Well applied, they look seamless, but for some specific uses, a less-than-seamless appearance is appropriate. I think it's pretty neat myself. Oh, and "lumpiness" is something that the weighted drying Laminar posted a picture of handles great. That's a particularly simple and basic mounting technique.

I'm 6'5". Luckily my last two cars (Contour and Mystique) have both had a power driver's seat. I put it down and all the way back and I fit perfectly. Before that I had a Probe and getting in and out of that was an art form--I had to bend my head and my knee at perfect angles while getting in or else I'd nail either one of them on the window or steering wheel.

I put together a bed frame in Sketchup today and went to Lowes...it's going to be at least $60 to build what I want, and I'm probably only going to be living here for another 2 months, so I'm not sure if it's worth it, especially if I don't keep the bed.

There's just something I like about sleeping low to the floor. It's comforting from some reason to me. I can't stand those beds you need a step ladder to get into. My wife feels the same way and we found a frame that is only a couple inches off the ground, the top of our bed is around knee high. The only reason we don't have the mattresses right on the floor is that blankets don't "lie" well that way.
It's nice for our kids too. It's easy for them to climb into bed with us in the mornings.

Back on topic: I think it looks cool Laminar. I have always wanted to do a large image like that, but I have a hard time committing to just one image. I have a cool picture of a bee approaching landing on a flower I might do and put up in my daughter's room.

Wow. I've gotten used to being "tall" at 6'2.5". But now I realize that I'm just another shortie! I've found that many U.S. manufactured cars don't play well with tall people. I couldn't fit properly in a Neon-with the seat all the way back I still had my knees bent too far. Larger cars, such as a Stratus, give me enough leg room but not enough arm room, so I wind up tilting the seat back more than I like. Interestingly, Honda's seats have fit me for the last 25 years-and fit my 5'4" tall wife just as well. Something about their proportions and seat track angles just works for us.
On topic: what did you put the individual pieces on to make the overall poster? I want to say that it looks like foamcore, but the picture doesn't really say enough for me to be sure.

It's just straight paper taped together, nothing special at all. This is my first one and I wanted to keep it simple. I do have access to a printer that can print 4' wide paper or vinyl so my next one might be something like that. I want something on my walls, but the generic movie or girl posters just don't appeal to me. BTW, I'm in the process of building a bedframe. It will be done by tonight. I spent 2 hours trying to buy a new drill, or I'd be done now.

In one of your pictures it looked like you'd mounted the pages on something. Pictures and eyes get together to mess with my mind sometimes. But I think a can of spray adhesive, a suitable sized piece of foamcore, and some careful attachment of pages could give you a better finished product on your next one.

I was waiting for someone to say that too! Well handled by the people who actually know cars.
on a side note: my friend just put together a 1990 Mustang Coupe, no interior, a bit of dynamat, black carpet, black Corbeau seats, streetable rollbar with harness belts. He's got a 351W based stroker with AFR heads and a single turbo. Koni shocks/coilovers/panhard setup. He hasn't taken it to a track yet, but dang.
Sick!

Very true, but in car comparisons, I always just assume either the car's max, or the same driver. Becuase yes, it's amazing the driver influence.

Well, no, most cars don't run 14s, but since you were obviously comparing performance geared cars, Mustang GTs, even the new ones, don't rank very high up there at all.
Well, regardless, since you seem to know your cars, I won't give you crap. I'm just sick of the 17 year old kids in my area, with their riced out POSs that couldn't pull a 17 with a tail wind, driving around like they are *IT*.
Swear to god, yesterday I saw a Ford Probe with an Exhuast kit.

Agreed. I live in a college town, and every day I get to witness morans who decided that adding a wing, chrome taillights, and a $15 eBay muffler to their Civic makes it a racecar. And when my "average looking" family sedan absolutely destroys them, they're left wondering what they did wrong. I mean, their car looks exactly like it did in The Fast and The Furious!!1! In stock form, my car has taken an RSX, V6 Mustangs, a Grand Am, an Escort (one of the stupidest cars I've seen), and I don't remember what else. And now I'll have about 40-50 more horsepower, and 60-70 more lb-ft of torque, along with a new clutch and a limited slip.
As far as Probes go, they can be fast. I used to have one, so I was part of the community. There's a guy in Iowa that runs 12s with a turbo and nitrous. I also know some guys that ran high 12s naturally aspirated, The GTs give you a pretty good bang for your buck, the SEs (4 cyl) aren't really worth it though. And the 1st generation ('88-'92) GTs that came turbocharged from the factory are easily capable of 13s with a little minor tweaking.

Yeah almost bought a ProbeGT. Then ran 15s STOCK. This is when most cars were running 17s in the quarter.
Hell the 98-99 Dodge Neon R/Ts I have seen hit 15s in the 1/4 stock. High 14s slightly modded.
And we all know what the SRT-4s do. (13.7s stock... from an economy car...)
I LOVE sleepers. Cars that people don't think are fast cause they don't look fast. But they rip.
I doubt many people look at this and think "Fast"
285 hp with a 2.4l 4banger.
We are talking mid 13s or faster STOCK for less than $20k new. And they sell upgrade kits.
Too bad it's ugly though. The older SRT-4 was better looking.

My STOCK Civic smokes any and all "riced" Civics around here. It may have something to do with the fact that I actually watch the light instead of the other guys waiting at the same light with me.

And the 1st generation ('88-'92) GTs that came turbocharged from the factory are easily capable of 13s with a little minor tweaking.
Interestingly enough, the Probe and current Mustangs are/were built in exactly the same factory: the Auto Alliance plant in Flat Rock, Michigan.

Aahhaha yes driver experience has a LOT to do with this. Esp with 5spds. Guys that can't shift can't shift. No matter how fast they are. I've smoked cars WAY faster than my own because of bad drivers.

Yup, and they were evening thinking about replacing the Mustang with the more modern Probe.
As sporty coupe, the Probe was intended to fill the market niche formerly occupied by the Capri in Europe, and although it was intended as the replacement to the Ford EXP, it was also considered a possible replacement for the Ford Mustang in the North American market as a direct competitor with the Acura Integra of the time. Fans objected to the front-wheel drive configuration, Japanese engineering, and lack of a V8, so Ford went to work on a new design for the Mustang instead.
The V6 Probe GT was nothing to laugh about at the time. The 4cyl Probe SEs? were however slow.
Back when they first came out, I remember how sitting in one made you feel like you were sitting in a cockpit of a spaceship. Very modern for it's time.
The Probe was just a lighter, faster, better handling Mazda MX-6

BTW the new Mercury Cougars are just the 3rd revision of the Probe. But the name "Probe" had a negative connotation and wordplay. So they called it the cougar.
It pretty much looks like a modern Probe.
Though I doubt it's any faster than the last Probe GT. Probably slower.
