Does Apple participate in Black Friday or this is wishful thinking?

They do, but the savings on actual Macs are generally minimal.

Five or ten percent? You wish!
If I recall the black Fridays from the last few years, you can expect no discount on any Mac hardware and marginal savings on accessories. I've been to the Apple Store day after Thanksgiving and it's a mess. Employees hand out a printed flyer with all the "specials" and they tended to be iPod accessories (i.e., speakers, earphones, etc.)

Black Friday at the Apple store is ridiculous. It's so busy with people going nuts to save $2 on iPod socks.
So not worth it.

Apple gives 10% on "accessories". Which is fine if you need one.
Some places give add-ons with your mac for free, but no mac price break (or very little). It's better than nothing, but not worth the hassle unless you like the hassle.

The Black Friday discount is great if you're a student or government employee. Of course you have to buy online...and they won't combine the the government and student discounts. Bums.

It varies. I know the MacBooks start at about $100 off. (A little less than 10%)

I live in the DC Metro and both my brother and my father work for the Fed Government and my niece is a GMU student, maybe I'll hold off getting an iMac now.
