Black Friday Ads 2007 - SOYO 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor at Office Max

$250 for a 24" 1920x1200 LCD display @ Office Max.

Dang, might be worth upgrading finally at that price.

Lower end brand, like Acer.

Products are OK, and usually good for the price.

Don't you recognize a genuine Panasofonic when you see one? And look, there's a Magnetbox and Sorny.

Details? I could use a second one. Is this "you get what you pay for?"

Review.
For that price, it doesn't seem half bad. If you can get past its horrendous looks, outdated thick bezels, and *gag* wretched built in speakers, it's probably not a bad deal for $250. Much more than that, and I'd say it'd be better to get a 22" Samsung or Dell, or spring the extra bucks for a name brand 24".

What are you on about? Soyo is an independent brand and reasonably well-respected. The name doesn't sound like any other major brand, and it was never meant to be one of those pseudo-brands.

Furthermore, the review actually gave that monitor a good score.

P.S. I hope you don't consider Magnavox a top tier brand.

I like the idea of integrated speakers. Or do you think all iMacs are wretched too?

Who cares? It's an LCD. As long as it does the usual 60 Hz (and it does), that's fine.

If the reference was from one of the past 6 seasons, no one blames you.

It makes sense for the iMac to have integrated speakers- it's an all-in-one unit. But imagine an Apple Cinema display with crap built-in speakers hanging off the bottom. Bleh. And really, it's not even worth comparing the level of design quality between virtually anything from Apple, and this type of budget product- even the iMac has downward facing speakers that don't muck up the front panel.

I think it'd make more sense for this monitor to have crap speakers if it had more inputs and could be used as a computer-independent HDTV, but let's face it- even a $15 pair of crap external speakers would easily sound better.

Anyway, no big deal. I think it's probably a good deal, if it doesn't have any deal-breaker performance or quality issues.
