"There is a minority of intellectual pacifists, whose real motive appears to be admiration for totalitarianism. Pacifist propaganda boils down to saying that one side is as bad as the other, but if one looks closely at the writing of these intellectual pacifists, one finds that they do not by any means express impartial disapproval but are directed against Britain and the United States" - George Orwell, 1945.

I'll admit to being a thief. I steal as many movies as I can. Don't get upset with me. Look at all the important people in charge of America. They steal whatever they can too. All the politicians are getting untold thousands of dollars from certain people/companies, all the lawyers suing people for thousand of dollars, our military forces stealing lots of things all over the world, our police bending the law to their own interpretation...
me? I just like watching some movies sometimes. That's not so bad.

That is wrong on so many levels, I don't know where to start.

Hey again as long as they fool themselves into believing their own BS that is all that matters. This threads aren't for those of us that know it's wrong. It's for those that are still in denial. They use it to convince himself.

I'm not sure what's wrong with people. It's obviously a complex issue with some extremely divergent viewpoints. But for some, it just feels one way or another which makes it easy for them to call folks with a different point of view "morons" and "idiots". I'd say those on the "it's stealing, asshole!" side of the fence are coming across more like the "masturbation == baby killer!"... in this thread, anyway.

Pooka, that post ALMOST came off sounding unbiased. Then the last part ruined it.
Fact is, it's illegal. And by doing it you are doing something that is illegal.
Regardless of how one justifies it.
And yes, if you download something, keep it and don't pay for it, is is theft. I don't care about the "I wouldn't have bought it if I had to pay for it" argument. IF it's not worth paying for, you shouldn't own it then. If it' worth having and keeping, it's worth paying for.
This has become such an every day part of people's lives they just take it for granted.
Just because they aren't PHYSICALLY going into a store and PHYSICALLY taking something they think it's not a loss.
And yes I do it too. But I sorta steal it from the store. Listen to it. And if I like it go back and pay for it.
Not that my way is any less wrong. Just keepin it real YO.

I dunno. Seems like a needlessly charged topic for this forum. Then again, I was almost banned (twice) in the HD vs Bluray thread. I guess I'm just one of those people that doesn't automatically equate illegal with wrong. Like doing 80 in a 60. It's illegal, but I don't really find it morally reprehensible. From some of the attitudes in this discussion, I can see now that some people would probably like to see me jailed and raped so that society at large will get it through their thick heads that speeding KILLS children. Oh, and that it's sad that I'm so stupid for not seeing how wronga and stupid it is to speed.

Scary... there is a reason there are speed limits. If you don't find going past them morally wrong. You might if you ever ended up killing someone going that fast.

I think if I killed someone with my car that my car would probably be messed up as a result. The thought of my car being hurt does put a bit of fear into me.
It's not the morality of my actions that keeps me in line... it's the consequences of those actions. Maybe thats the problem. Wow, I could get all deep and **** about morality being an artifical construct of society (right up there with IP) but that would require a bunch of weed and an audience of open minded peeps that wouldn't jump my ass as soon as it was clear that I didn't agree with the entirety of their viewpoint.
Besides, I hate weed anyway.

If you consider that trolling, you obviously haven't seen some of the posts where I actually apply myself. Dood, my sentence structures suck and it's difficult most of the time for me to form a coherent thought. I admit that. But I wouldn't describe my posts in this thread as trolling. I was taking a round about way of saying that I didn't think Chuckit was a ****ing idiot for trying to have a discussion (calmly) that some people reflexively and violently reacted to. I'm sure given my history, he's not looking in my direction for an advocate. But since when did I ever really give two shits what anyone thought?

Perfect example, buddy. My sig was in response to the whole supreme pizza court ruling that butt humping was legal. Or something like that. Look up Lawrence vs Texas for details. Point being, butt loving was morally reprehensible and illegal in some places. Now it's totally morally acceptable (see NBC Thursday night) and perfectly legal.
It's my opinion that intellectual property is a lot like butt sex.
