Recently I have been given the choice to buy either an iPhone or Leopard. Buying both is not a possibility, unfortunately. What does everyone think I should do? Is Leopard really that bad? Is the iPhone that great?
Thanks

Do you need a new phone and what kind of Mac are you using. Both are great products but fulfill completely different needs.
Given the cost of the iPhone is so much more expense , I'd say get the iphone, and then save up to buy Leopard down the road.
btw where did you get the idea that Leopard is that bad.

The many articles about people that have had problems with it, the bugs that have shown up, the inconsistent GUIs, the GUI drawing problems, I could go on.
While problems are known to plague 10.X versions, it seems 10.5 has more than usual.
I would go for the Phone. And wait till 10.5 is in the 10.5.1/10.5.2 stages. As I've been told by a few Apple employees a lot of people were pulled from 10.5 to work on the iPhone.

Not really. Just because you didn't get the new GUI you were hoping for doesn't mean Leopard is buggy. As you said, problems are known to plague 10.x versions — case in point.
As for me and most others I know, it's been fine.

Leopard hasn't given me any serious issues at all.

OT I think it's buggy too. Crappy firewall aside, there are other Networking issues as well. Don't even get me going on the GUI...
Topic: Save your money and/or get a basic reliable phone AND Leopard. But put Leopard on a different volume - it will only get better!

Get an iPhone.
(Though, I personally would get neither...son has the iPhone and it's too slow for me to manipulate - I'd rather just flip a lid up and push the numbers.)

I'll grant you that. I wish Apple would stick with a given look and implement that completely, and consistently throughout the OS.
I also agree that by pulling the developers off the OSX and onto the iPhone certainly hurt OSX's roll out.
With that said, I've not really run into any major bugs or problems, I'm sure I don't exercise the machine/OS as thoroughly as many of the other 'NN members. I mostly use it for Aperture, light to medium Photoshop and Fusion to connect to my companies network.

Maybe some people in here will give you the advice to copy Leopard, because it's all bits just like music

Wow you got that out of what I said? Really? I honestly don't believe that. Or I would call 10.4.9 buggy. And I don't.
As you said, problems are known to plague 10.x versions — case in point.
I also said that 10.5 was worse than most 10.x versions... it has gotten more complaints and has had more problems with users upgrading.
This has nothing to do with the GUI. And I don't appreciate the silliness.

What, you think I hacked your post and put in repeated mentions of the GUI as examples of the major problems people are having with Leopard?

I would have voted for buying Leopard and trying to use the box as a phone.

I gave GUI examples as well as other examples. You acted as if I was just talking about the GUI. I was not. My FIRST sentence. "The many articles about people that have had problems with it, the bugs that have shown up,"
Bugs, things that are wrong with the OS. Then I went onto mentioning the GUI part. The part you obsessed over to the point you ignored the other parts.
