So, I bought these:
Amazon.com: Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of Metallica: Music: Rockabye Baby!
Amazon.com: Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of Led Zeppelin: Music: Various Artists
Amazon.com: Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of Nine Inch Nails: Music: Various Artists
Amazon.com: Rockabye Baby: Lullaby Renditions of Tool: Music: Various Artists
for my 1 y/o godson, for his birthday. However, his mother, somewhat forcefully, gave them back to me and accused me of trying to corrupt her child. The boy's father, one of my best friends, thought the gift was awesome, but he's too terrified of his wife to say anything.
I suppose I'll just keep them, they do sound amazing, and get him something more "pedestrian". It just surprises me how crazed some people are.

Just explain that the gift was something you thought everyone would be able to enjoy. If you gotta listen to a lullaby, why not make it something the parent(s) actually like. I don't mean try to sell her on them again, just to gloss her over a little.
Although seeing songs about suicide and drug addiction being made into lullabies is a little too much for me.

I've heard previews of those albums before and I think they are a great idea and they are actually great covers. I'm a metalhead and Met, Zep, NIN & Tool are some of my favorite artists and if I ever have a kid I would like to try and instill the metal bug in them early enough that they can appreciate it. It sucks that your good intentions were received as malicious intent. It amazes me how closed-minded a lot of people still are about a musical style that has been developing openly and with such a large amount of exposure for such a long time. It's not like you tried to give the kid a Slayer or Children Of Bodom album.

Children Of Bodom deserve their own Rockabye baby! album. I'd like to hear them try to keep up with the song "Warheart."

Hmm, my god-daughter was just born about a week ago. I was going to get her some baby sized NJ Devil gear (mom's a huge hockey fan, and I'm from NJ), but this is pretty good too.

As a parent, I have to kind of agree in principle with the mother. I watch over what my kids watch. While they're too old for lullabies this would not be something I'd want to expose them too when they were just babies..
What I do (and other friends/family members do) is ask what would be appropriate for a gift. That way you'll not be accused of corrupting their little minds.

Expose them too? It's music! I'm listening to the samples on Amazon and I don't hear any singing.
Are these instrumental only? 'Cause if they are, I'm not getting the whole "corruption" thing.

Yeah, I listened to a couple and it basically sounds like instrumental versions on a synthesized xylophone. Kinda lame, really...

Maye you should listen to them, they're all very soft instrumental versions of the songs. In fact, I seriously doubt you could even recognize some of the songs w/o the liner notes. I can, but I'm a huge fan of all those groups.
Even worse, when he turns 5 is she going to keep me from giving him a set of the Chronicles of Narnia, claiming they would be an "evil influence"? That would be a fair piece of irony.
At times, the rampant ignorance and stupidity in this society terrifies me.

No, no lyrics.
Trust me, there's no way I'd let a toddler listen to Closer, in it's original form.

I kinda hoped at least once in this version of Closer that I would have heard a soft lullaby inspired chorus.

I can't pretend that I don't want them for myself. Their cover of "Tonight, Tonight" by The Smashing Pumpkins is amazing.

Yeah. I had the Smashing Pumpkin one. Basically it's crappy MIDI versions of the songs. Pretty lame.

I'm pretty sure that I saw somewhere that the guy behind the series actually plays the instruments. I don't think they sound like MIDI at all.
