Saw it last night in 3D. Pretty cool since I haven't seen a 3D movie since Freddy's Dead.
I'm not too familiar with the original story, though I thought it was more of a love story. The cgi was amazing and the voice acting was superb.
Besides the kids that laughed at every sexual inuendo, I found the movie quite entertaining. If you do go see, I highly recommend seeing it in 3D. The whole movie is 3D as well as some of the beginning previews.

Yeah, I was a little surprised there wasn't more noise here about the flick. All in all, I thought it was pretty sweet.

It is all cgi, so it isn't really Jolie. The cgi Jolie is fully nude except for cgi body paint on cgi Jolie.

I heard a dreadful review on npr. I'd like to see the effects, but the previews didn't grab me enough to see it in the theatre.

Eh, it was neat. Rather than just let the 3d movie be 3d though, every single shot was specifically set up to maximize the 3d effect. Because of this it felt like one long tech demo. The over use of the 3d tended to detract from the movie, but I agree that the voice acting was great and the story sufficiently engaging to keep my attention. It was a worthwhile watch in my opinion, and if you're going to see it, you will want to do so in the theater.

It looks like a gimmick to me. If you want it to look as real as possible, why not just film it in live action? The people in the trailers just looked wooden to me.
And if you want to see Angelina Jolie's chest, just go rent Hackers or Gia.

I watched in the the 3D IMAX too. I don't think it would be as enjoyable on the regular theater.
Awesome story, good voices, but the main character was too exaggerated to make a memorable hero, and the CG quality was Shrek-level at best.

Haha. Well it would be an "awesome story" since it's one of the oldest hero-mythos we have:
Beowulf is an Old English heroic epic poem of anonymous authorship. Its creation dates to between the 8th and the 11th century, the only surviving manuscript dating to circa 1010. At 3183 lines, it is notable for its length. It has risen to national epic status in England.
Of course the main hero was exaggerated

Funny, it was two 40ish adult men sitting next to me who were making noises and laughing at each and every sexual innuendo, and every time Angelina showed up on screen.

You also get to see quite a bit of Beowulf in the buff. That was unexpected.

... or Pushing Tin. It was quit awkward watching that with family.
I thought all of the actors looked very realistic, with the exception of Beowulf. Ray Winstone looks nothing like his movie character in real life.
I don't understand, either, why they couldn't have done this as a live action movie. Maybe it was because they wanted to do it in 3D and it was easier this way. Or maybe it cost less to do it CG?
