A teacher of mine came with some usefull tip: Type google.com/ncr in your browser and the search results will be more global than when you use google.com. He says that google.com directs Dutch users to google.nl and 'Dutchefied' search results.
I have no idea what to make of this. I know that certain countries restrict access to content, but what makes /ncr different from .us/.nl/etc/?

They used to have a Mac centric version, but that's been replaced with info on their own products.

Sometimes I feel like google finds things because I am on a Mac. Search results for netural computer terms like to come up with mac centric results. Is this due to google? or something else?

I'd call that BS.
www .google.com/ncr/ ---> Not Found
www .google.com/ncr ---> defaults to www. google.com
What gives...

The ncr part tells Google to take you to the normal, American Google.com. It's just something they put there so you can do that since Google automatically takes you to the "local" version for your country. It's the address used for the "Google in English" link at the bottom of localized Google pages (Google.nl, Google.co.jp, Google.de and all those).

But the search results don't differ from .nl right? That was his point: 'dutchefied' results.

Search for "Apple" on Google.nl and the American Google.com. I think you'll find they do differ.

No, this was on purpose so the hampstor wouldn't parse the URLS.

Aaah, right. With /ncr I get all the english versions of apple and with .nl I get all the dutch pages. Mmm /ncr will be my default from now on.
