I'm in the market now for a new pocket knife. My Kershaw knife has finally gotten too old and worn after 15 years of use.

Although I enjoy using a Leatherman Micra, it just doesn't have the same feel as a single blade pocket knife. Sometimes I just want to cut a box open and pulling out a multi-tool isn't what I want.

Anyone have a good suggestion for a simple pocket knife?

I have a Gerber AR 3.00 BB. It's kind of hard on the thumb(flicking it open with one hand) but otherwise great in use and handling.

I currently carry a small lock blade Kershaw. I always have my pocket knife in my pocket except when going on a flight. I'm 51 and have only owned 5 pocket knives since I started carrying one as a teenager. I feel naked without it in my pocket. I use it for something every day.

for a lower price point than the strider, if you like kershaws, i would recommend zero tolerance knives
like the zt301
or zt400.

they can be had for about half the price of striders, and they are ****in rock solid
ken onion (kershaw's head designer), designed most of the zero tolerance knives, so that's what made me think of it

I've got a beautiful French Laguiole pocket knife. Blade, bottle opener, olive wood handle but I never carry it with me. No need really.

I used to carry some expensive pocket knives, but I lost a few too many. Belt clips don't work out too well for me, so I picked up a Leatherman c302.

Single blade knife with a small foldaway carabiner clip. It is great, and I have yet to lose it. If I do, I might just replace it with another.

I don't know where I'd be without my Leatherman. I've had it for years... given to me by my best friend. I like the Swiss Army version of the Leatherman also. This knife has been invaluable to me for computer hardware repair.

I usually carry a sub-$20 knife in my pocket. I can use it, lose it, whatever I want and it's not a big deal.

I carry a Leatherman Squirt S₄ and a Squirt P₄. Small enough that both fit in a pocket without being really clunky and nice to have the pliers and scissors. Lost my S₄ at work for around 9 months. Got watered by rain and irrigation then it got to sit through Colorado winter before I found it again. A bit of pen oil and it was good to go.

It's lightweight (0.6 oz) and can be opened with one hand.

Seems strange to me, I used to carry one when I lived in China, but the triads are not so much of an issue where I live now. Can't see what you would need one for in America, all the criminal have guns there.

I own numerous pocket knives, some for collecting and some for regular daily carry. One I often carry is a Benchmade 707 Sequel. I like it because it is nice and flat so fits comfy in my pocket. And I love Benchmade's AXIS locking mechanism. Another one I frequently carry is my Le Thiers, which also fits very nicely in a pocket, and I really like the Norwegian Birch scales.

When I go hiking, I often carry a SOG Tomcat 3.0. It's nice and hefty and the Arc-lock is almost as good as the AXIS.

One of my favorite pocket knives is a damascus steel lockback I got in Alaska. It has scrimshaw scales done in whale bone by a native artist/knife maker. I don't carry it too much though, as the India ink in the scrimshaw has a tendency to wear off slowly with a lot of handling and rubbing inside a pants pocket.

I use my knife for daily tasks. I tend to make and modify things and sometimes all I need is a small sharp knife to make something work or fit together. Open packages, cut fruits, wire, open mail, ...

I'd waste half my day looking for a knife if I didn't carry one.

Mind you, I rarely carry it when I leave the property. I especially do NOT carry it if I am going to a public event.

At friend's houses I often hear "Hey Railroader*, lend me your knife for this task I must complete."

True, there's quite a few pocket/utility knives layin around my house for daily use. And true, I wouldn't try to stab some dude who had a gun pointed at me, but I've found that the late night foot-powered scumbag doesn't always have a gun, but still wants my money just the same.

Yeah, I don't carry a knife for "protection". Just a handy tool. I'd say it gets used at least 3-5 times a week. Yesterday as a matter of fact.

I mean, if you're low on cash you can use it in a pinch to mug old people, but they're usually packing some brutal ****.

absolutely everything I need, I use the knife, (wine)bottle opener, can opener, a pincher, scissors and a pen. and a clock with alarm in the morning, really ingenious. I carry it everywhere and it's handy everytime. I like multi-purpose things .

when i was ni the shop to buy it it took me about 30 minutes to choose one. If you know what you are looking for it's kind of hard to find it. Turned out i knew more about swiss army knives than the shop owner. I wouldn't be happy with the fat swiss army knives as they are just too big. This is all I need and it's very small too.

Exactly. Since I was a kid, I've always had a pocket knife with me. It goes in my pocket always as just a normal thing to carry with me. It's useful for many things in a normal day.

I also leave one in the center console box of my car - that one with a half-serrated blade (Gerber Evo). Ideal for breaking out a window with the tip, or cutting a seatbelt if someone is pinned inside a wreck.

A simple, well made knife is one of the most useful tools to have around.

I carry a knife so I can cut packing straps and rope, whittle, trim tree limbs, open packages, cut fruit, etc..

I've met many criminals, but none of them were carrying guns. However, I do often carry a gun because it's my right, I have a permit, and when I do eventually run into a criminal who is armed I won't be easy prey. If all legal, law-abiding citizens were to carry a gun society would be much more polite.

Anyway, I like the knives, I would have one if I lived in a more rural area and it was legal.

Which one? Off the top of my head, I can think of ~15 countries where you can get a permit to carry a concealed handgun.

I feel sad that you can't carry a pocket knife, that's just wrong.
