So want to buy a Sony PSP for my stepson this Christmas, and I've been looking everywhere for it.

So far there's none to be had. The console goes for 169, and amazon's private selling has them selling for 280. What a rip off.

I've checked online and in stores at best buy, circuit city, target, sears, walmart. I know I'm out of the loop when it comes to game consoles, but I am surprised. This baby has been out for a couple of years and I didn't think it would be so hard to find.

Oh well, I'll keep my eye out and see if any shipments arrive next week.

I usually do all my shopping before thanksgiving but I didn't get out of him what he wanted till now.

Weird I didn't think it would sell out at a bunch of places like that.

I heard the new slim version was selling like hotcakes in Japan though even though it isn't much of an upgrade.

Come to think of it, I haven't really seen it anywhere. You might want to check with GameStop if you have one in your area. They'll let you know when the next shipment is coming in and you can pick one up there. I've also seen them sporadically at Target.

BTW, in my opinion, the new one is worth it just because of the added RAM.

The benchmarks I saw didn't make things any faster for most games.

Yeah my wife already stopped by one today. I'll be heading to another mall (shudders) tomorrow and see if they have one.

No but then I'm not sure why that matters? All I know is that he asked for one. As I mentioned he asked and we're buying.

He's heading over to Iraq in January so we don't want to skimp on the presents and we want something will help pass the time when he's not on duty.

Clearly he does not know what's best for him. Unless he likes to pass time looking at loading screens I guess

If you're dead set on getting a PSP, you may have to pay the extra $30 and get the Vader edition that comes with Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron.

The Vader version is pretty cool. Renegade Squadron, however, isn't that great. The graphics are horrid, and the story line is cheesy. The heros are pretty cool though. BF2 was much better.

Thanks for the offer, I'm still searching. Still no luck, I suspect that will be the case until after Christmas.

I'm not so quick to blame them. I've noticed a number toys and other things that have gone out of stock, even adult stuff, like perfume for my wife. I had amazon cancel an order because the perfume I ordered went out of stock before they got to my order.

They like everyone else guesses how many units to produce and where to distribute them. If I'm desperate (which I'm not) I could be the nearly double price that those private sellers are offering at amazon. The console will be there after Christmas, if we don't get it, the wife and I will buy the games and tell him that the console will be his once it arrives in the stores.

I wish both DS Lite and PSP do support 802.11g.

That was about as subtle as a crowbar to the head.

Well I snagged one.

I've been checking daily, bestbuy.com, circuitcity.com and of course amazon.com. Today just before I left for the day (I had checked earlier) I logged into amazon and low and behold they had them!

I didn't waste a second and ordered that puppy, and in fact it shipped. I was still holding my breath because I already and some orders from amazon cancel on me so I didn't wan this to be another casualty.

My stepson is going to be one happy dude. I'll leave buying some games to my wife, but should do it for my Christmas list.

This made my day

A great companion to the PSP is Handbrake. I've used the PSP as a portable movie player prior to the iPhone, and Handbrake takes care of the heavy lifting part of the process. Would probably impress your son if not only could he play his games, but also watch his favorite movies on his new gift.

Yeah I hope so. I've been searching hard on trying to locate it. I'm anxious to get it and wrap it.

This is really the last present, so I'm all done
