I noticed while I was on ebay yesterday that someone was selling a Macintosh 128k. It appeared to be in excellent condition and it seemed to have some of the stuff you don't get, some of the original packaging etc.
Anyways the seller had it for $750 bucks Is it me, or is that amount outrageous. Needless to say it didn't sell (The auction ended some time last night).
How much would you pay for a Macintosh 128k.
I have a Macintosh Color Classic in my closet, I'm tempted to dig it out, and fire that puppy up for nostalgia sake. I have a G4 cube that's running OS9 for some stuff that only runs in the older OS (plus I love the G4 cube).

The 128ks are actually worth some decent coin when in good condition and complete (box, software... etc). The original carrying case that was offered also seems to add a nice bit to any auction I've seen.
But 512ks are worth nothing for some reason.
Anyways, there are very few classic Macs that you'd be able to find anybody willing to pay shipping for, let alone make any money on them.

Yeah I wasn't looking to make money.
In some ways getting the 128k would be nice on one hand, but mostly to say I own the first Macintosh. Since there's really little I can do with it, I was not willing to drop 750 dollars for it.
The color classic has some options that I've not done yet. There's a mystic motherboard replacement I can do which gives it a little more power. Since its collecting dust in my closet, I'm not ready to do too much for it.
I was tempted to upgrade this baby completely. Replace the screen for a 9" lcd screen, get a tiny motherboard, maybe a g4 iMac motherboard and rebuild it but I've not had the time or energy.

I had a Mac Plus for a while that I _TRIED_ to keep alive and gave it _SOME_ functionality, but in the end, it just takes up space. Like the Cube I have.

My cube is more functional I enjoy playing with that. While I generally don't play games there's some old games that I'll fire up on puppy. Plus I there's just some old software, that I have like I keep around.

I'd pay about $20 for one of those Macintosh 128k machines.
I'd pay about $300 for a complete Cube setup. In fact, I did a few months ago - with original speakers and wireless. This is the Mac I use as a second computer for surfing/email, and to run LogMeIn to access my PC at work.
I'd pay about $550 for a complete 20" lampshade iMac setup. In fact, I did last month - with original speakers, wireless, and SuperDrive. This is my Mac at the office.

I love the Lampshade iMac Next to the cube, this was probably one of the best designed computers. I was sorry to see it go when they rolled out the G5 iMac.

ColorClassic is another great collector Mac. It has great potential as a hobby/upgrade computer. Google up Power ColorClassic, you'll find tons of people who've upgraded their ColorClassics to G3s and even G4s. Lots of great hacks for it.
If you leave it as a 68k machine you can stick in an Apple IIe card and get 2 computers for the price of 1.
My favorite old Macs:
ColorClassic
ColorClassic II (impossible to find, was only sold in Japan)
PowerMac 6100 (with 486 DOS compatible card)
G4 Cube

The thread title led me to think this was a discussion of values (as in moral values) of the pre-iPod era. Glad it isn't…

The TAM has the prospect of selling for a decent price, but you really want to cash in consider the Lisa. I've seen some of those puppies sell for boku bucks.

Yeah, its failure opened the door to the Macintosh. In fact it became the Macintosh XL.

This obviously isn't being sold for use — it's meant to be a collector's item. A Macintosh collector would have to be a pretty rich person, so I suppose $750 is not all that unreasonable.

I'm with Eug - 750 is way too much, even for a collector's item. The computer did not sell, so I suspect other people thought the same thing
