I didn't see this one coming, I can understand it though. This was probably the hardest season he coached the redskins.

he is out of touch with today's player, the nfl is on a trend to hire young coaches, not old school guys. He was a great coach in the 80s and early 90s.

No argument there, but just recently he was asking for an extension so he wouldn't be a lame duck coach next year. That didn't sound like a man looking to resign.
The game, rather the players passed him by. He was a great coach, but times have changed and what worked 20 years ago didn't work now.
He's a great guy, that was successful, in football, then went over to nascar and because very successful there.

The NASCAR teams have floundered a bit since he went back to the Redskins. His son doesn't seem to have the same management knack that he has. Perhaps with his walking away from football again he can bring some life back into his NASCAR teams. (At least Tony Stewart's team ... I'm pretty sure that he'll find hiring Kyle Busch to be a mistake.)

I agree but I also think it will flounder even further because they're going over to Toyota this year. While I think the Toyota cars will be fast, this is their second year in nascar and they still have a lot of tweaking/adjusting to make them competitive. There's Tony Stewart calling everyone out for being bad drivers, i.e., nothing is ever his fault. Gibbs, if he returns to being more hands on there, will have is work cut out. I suspect that his grandchild's illness is going to be his focus and not nascar.

The Skins have stunk ever since Dan Snyder became owner, and changed the culture w/in the club. The players are only committed to their wallets, NOT the Redskins. They have no loyalty anymore. Gibbs did a fine job the 1st time he coached the Skins, but since then the attitudes and priorities are all different, and wining doesn't seem to be on the list.

Of course, he took the yankee's approach by over-paying for players without regard to chemistry and synergy.
