The Definitive Matrix of Macworld ‘08 Predictions and Rumors

by Aayush Arya
Jan 10, 2008

After Chris, I guess it is now my turn to stick out my neck and throw out a list of Macworld ‘08 predictions. Be aware that what you’re now going to read is a carefully researched article which takes into account various statistics from past keynotes and seeks to identify recurring patterns between them so as to accurately predict what lies ahead. It is methodical and scientific, makes no wayward assumptions and is, therefore, citable in all courts of law as proven fact. Warning: Spoilers abound!

So, without further ado, I present to you my simple 4x4 matrix of what I think lies ahead and the descriptions for each square. You might be reading this and mulling over things for quite a while so it might be a good idea to cancel all appointments scheduled for later today and grab yourself a cup of coffee (or whatever floats your boat, really). Presenting the article that will put an end to all the suspense associated with the Macworld Expo next week (last chance to back out is now):

Mark my words, you’re going to see these happen.

New MacBooks
: It’s a given. Steve Jobs is going to launch completely revamped new MacBooks at this Expo. The current MacBooks stick like sore thumbs in Apple’s line-up, with their scratch and crack prone fiber enclosures and combo drives from the ancient era. The new ones will be clad in anodized aluminum (the same metal that almost all the products in current line-up are made out of) and will have some black highlights. The screen size will remain the same, a SuperDrive will become standard across all models and it will feature a minor bump in some of the hardware components. It will, of course, look absolutely stunning and the starting price will remain the same. Steve Jobs will unveil a new advertisement or two. Read more...

Very funny article about the predictions for Macworld. A quote: "The only reason the iPod has games is that Fred Anderson inked a deal with Electronic Arts and paid them the money behind Steve Jobs’ back. You now know why the poor guy got involved in all that stocks backdating mess. Suffice it to say that it was no coincidence!" LOL! Must read.

No, this isn't spam. I found this article appear in the del.icio.us recent items feed and found it pretty humorous so I posted it.

It is an article in its own right so I wasn't sure whether I should post it in that thread or not. Feel free to have it moved.

New MacBooks are not coming next week. It will be May or June before these are updated again. MacBook Pros may not happen either - those may come early next month.

I'm not sure whether to move this or not. But I will ask "how are things there at Macworld? It looks like you registered just to post that article, and we get pretty touchy about spam around here, so people are understandably cautious about such things and your post is pretty suspicious looking.

At least the spam is interesting.
An ultra portable like the one pictured seems a little too wide imo, perhaps it doubles as a weapon of some type.

Well, I WOULD be putting my MacBook on ebay but I'm sending it off to Apple within the next few days to get this damn screen-flickering fixed! Oh well. Hopefully prices wont drop too much...

In hindsight, I guess it is. I've been a regular visitor to this forum for the past several months (since WWDC last year) but never felt the need to register here (or on any other forum, for that matter).

For some reason though, I found this article so freaking awesome that I just felt the compulsion to show it to you guys. Now that I've finally registered, I'll try to be a regular contributor to the forum.

I didn't think that posting links to genuine articles about the Macworld Expo on the Internet was against the rules. I'm sorry if I've broken any. The moderators may do whatever they wish to with this thread if it violates the rules.

I think I've seen that picture somewhere else on the Internet too. I doubt that the author who penned that article also designed the image. He probably just picked them out of a Google image search or something. I may be wrong but I think that the descriptions are independent of the images in the grid thingy (which, I must say, is very neatly done).

If they do release an ultra-portable, it should have a screen size less than 12".

I was in my local Best Buy last weekend and noticed that they had very limited quantities of Macbooks. There wasn't even a sign for the low end model.

There's a lesson to be learned there about Best Buy, mostly.

I say It's either new Apple TV, or NO Apple TV, one of the two. I think there's a 99% chance that it'll either get a massive update, or be "put on ice." I don't think it'll be left to rot on the shelf in its current form.

It definitely won't be "put on ice". My money is on a "revolutionary" new update that is "five years ahead" of everything else, a product that Apple has been "innovating like crazy" to bring to fruition... Boom!
