A friend of my dad's is retired. To offset a little income he and his wife travel all over going to various garage sales, estate sales, thrift shops, antique shops, etc., find hidden treasures, then sell them on eBay. So he's really good at identifying items with potential to sell for a lot more.
I only mentioned it in passing to him that my friends and I used to play Talisman if we couldn't get a D&D game going. Then on my birthday this year he shows up with a 2nd edition Talisman game that's 99% complete (only missing the Knight character card) with three expansions (Talisman Expansion, Dungeon, and Timescape.)
Google on eBay for Talisman and you'll see why this was such an unexpected gift. He said that Talisman was the second most expensive game he's ever sold at auction (the first being a game called Diplomacy). He sold an unopened Talisman plus all expansions for $850.
He picked up mine for $5 at a thrift store in Santa Cruz. I couldn't thank him enough.
So now my friends and I have been retiring to our Nerdery and playing Talisman at least three times a week.
Incidentally, 4th Edition Talisman is now out and I might pick up a copy before it becomes super expensive again. At the very least just for the updated rules, but hopefully so I can pick up some new expansions if they reprint any. 3rd Edition Talisman was horrible, Games Workshop had updated the game to reflect the art style of their Warhammer products. Ugh. But 4th Edition went back to the 2nd Edition style artwork. Good ol' classic fantasy, looks great.

I have that, it's a really cool game, we used to play it when we didn't have enough players for D&D or V:tM.
Another hot one was Dark Tower, I still have mine w/ working tower and all the pieces.

I have perhaps the first edition, not sure. It is sitting at my mothers house. I love it. My mother and I used to play on rainy days. We have the Tower expansion with a dragon on top.
A year or so ago, I was looking at the inflated prices on eBay with shock. Though I just recently noticed that the game is still being manufactured, so I might pick up a new one as well.

I like my water with hops, malt, hops, yeast, and hops.

Dragon's Tower is 3rd edition. I could never get past the artwork in 3rd edition, even though they had really cool and expanded expansions.

I just ordered mine today. 4th Edition goes back to the original 2nd Edition style. I can't wait. They say they're going to print expansions too. I sure hope so, the Dragon expansion for Talisman is around $250.

Diplomacy is a solid game. Back when I had nothing to do but spend days on end playing board games, Diplomacy was much fun.

Ugh, tournament Diplomacy is marathon at times, very cut-throat too. I've been in some games which lasted 16+ hours.
