Florida suspends Allstate from writing new policies in state - MarketWatch
About time. The Florida government finally stood for their constituents. Will this be the start of a more pro-consumer stance from Tallahassee?
Even the Governor is being direct, suggesting that all Allstate insurance holders should switch insurers. The issue seems to be black and white: Allstate was doing absolutely no good in FL.

Wouldn't the pro-consumer stance be to not limit the choices available to the consumer while, at the same time, encouraging people to educate themselves about the options so they can make the best choice for them?

Yeah, I suppose that's all florida needs now. Less insurance companies writing policies in Florida. Their rates are high as it is, less companies covering that state means higher rates.
As for the article, I do think it was good for them to suspend them, but in the end, the consumer will be paying higher rates.

They can't play connect the dots on a voting ballot. How are they going to "educate" themselves by reading a legal document?

Some things like car safety, insurance and banking are too complex to expect everyone to become an expert in. In effect, the people pool their resources to hire experts to vet these things and make basic rules to eliminate the worst and most abusive.

The people that are really going to get hurt by this are the independent agents. Sucks to be an Allstate agent right now. They are NOT in good hands.

Correct. As a Texas Gulf Coast homeowner and insurance expert, I can attest to that.

True, but then tack on even higher premiums because less and less companies are writing policies. Also how do you think those daily fines are going to be paid. They executives are not going to write a check from their personal bank account. Now, they'll be drawing money from the companie's account and basically charging the consumer.
