. By reading the congressman's comments it looks as if the bill was passed in a very sneaky
way. This is extra scary to me. They passed the Patriot Act and the Patriot Act II in a similarly
sneaky way and they're using them to do some pretty bad things. Now that /seems/ to be
pointed directly at us - the internet users.
This could be very bad news if you're under 20 and haven't figured out how to act civil online
yet - we all know the types - or are just very opinionated like myself. In the former case these
kids are only immature loud-mouths and won't be deserving of the kinds of life altering
experiences they may be in for with this.
This is about HR 1955 which resembles the patriot act in too many ways - And it's directed at
individuals (that's you and I!) on the internet. Now I feel downright singled out. Here's the Wiki
link but with all the censorship (Political and History "revisions") they have undertaken in the
in 2006 I doubt it will say anything significant - at least for very long
Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Here's some interesting (and scary) quotes from the bill:
- SEC. 899A (2) VIOLENT RADICALIZATION- The term `violent radicalization' means the process of adopting or promoting an extremist belief system for the purpose of facilitating ideologically based violence to advance political, religious, or social change.”
- SEC. 899B. (3) The Internet has aided in facilitating violent radicalization, ideologically based violence, and the homegrown terrorism process in the United States by providing access to broad and constant streams of terrorist-related propaganda to United States citizens.”
- SEC. 899A. (4) IDEOLOGICALLY BASED VIOLENCE- The term `ideologically-based violence' means the use, planned use, or threatened use of force or violence by a group or individual to promote the group or individual's political, religious, or social beliefs.”
What do you think?
Should we be worried?
Feel free to pass this link (or the post in it's entirety) around where you like.

It's too late to be worried - that should have happened at about the time when Patriot Act I was being rushed through (when people were being called a terra-ist for disagreeing.)
This should be in the PL.

I thought "less government involvement" was supposed to be the Conservative base?

Yes, this should be in the PL.
But...
SEC. 899A. (4) IDEOLOGICALLY BASED VIOLENCE- The term `ideologically-based violence' means the use, planned use, or threatened use of force or violence by a group or individual to promote the group or individual's political, religious, or social beliefs.”
First American to not pay his taxes and then use this new legislation against the arresting parties gets many brownie points. Because surely, arresting you for not paying taxes is use of violent force to promote their (the people who believe in taxes) social beliefs.
Good luck fellas.

Yeah, but none of the restrictions imposed by Congress ever restrict the federal government, right?

Seems like there's no need to move this to the PL, right? We all think this sucks?

PL, please.
But for the record, neither Democratic or Republican parties are too concerned with small government anymore.

So, basically it means that if you don't agree with what the government agrees as OK online, then you're silenced?
Communist China anyone?

People that follow this sorta **** have seen this happening for years and years. You're well past the point where you can "worry".
I'd advise getting the **** out before people start publicly being reprimanded for harbouring seditious thoughts.
