Looks like many of us might be getting a few bucks from the government.

What are you going to do with it?

I think I might finally get Windows for my home Intel iMac. And a few games. Oh, and Leopard.

And don't get political, this seems to be a fairly bi-partisan move.

One thing is for sure: if you decide to save the money instead of spend it, then you are engaging in economic terrorism and ought to be sent to Gitmo!

(I'm thinking of finally going HD with my TV myself....)

Use it to start an eco-conscious low impact commune that de-couples from the global economy.

The only things still made in the USA that anyone cares about overseas are Hollywood movies, aircraft, computer software, weapons of mass destruction, Zippo lighters, Mag-Lite flashlights and bullets, explosives and propellants for WMD's.

Sorry, those Mag-lites are complete crap these days. My first one lasted over 10 years and I went through hell with it. The last two never left my apartment and broke within 2 years.

Meh, $1200. Whatever.

I'll just drop it in the savings fund.

What I've heard today is expect a fast three week timetable to get that all hammered out. Unusually quick for government work.

Looks like free money. It is going to put us probably over 100 Billion more in debt.

Something bad going on over there if the government is handing out free money. $1200? It's like they're giving you one last good night before your economy collapses and you all die of starvation.

Isn't this raising alarms bells with anyone at all?

I can see some people using this money as a DOWNPAYMENT for a new car, bought on credit...

$600 to individuals and $1,200 to couples who paid income tax and who filed jointly.

People who did not pay federal income taxes but who had earned income of more than $3,000 would get checks of $300 per individual or $600 per couple.

There's also a distinct possibility that this is also an election year move to make good with your constituents.

Dems ? Reps ? All ?

Since this is not a single party effort, it helps all, and will not have a major impact on the elections.

Looks like almost everyone is for it. Rare bi-partisan support. Doofy may be right, we might need to be a bit worried here.

Well, the market got worse right after it was announced. That should tell you something right there.

But you know, maybe those in power really, really believe in the magic of consumerism to save us all.

They're called incumbents. That's who it helps. When it's election time, Senators and Representatives are worried about their own asses, not the party.

Hmmm... So rich folks aren't getting anything?

Smells like a bit of wealth redistribution then. Communism by the back door. The House is full of which party again?

(Sorry 'bout the politics. Had to point it out though.)

Basically the idea is to STIMULATE the Economy (Spend spend spend)... do I think its fair? NO! Do I think if they give everyone the money the upper class will spend it away? NO. So in interest of NOT getting further in debt as a nation I will live with the unfairness of this.
