Wife laced anniversary meal with anti-freeze

William Davis, for the prosecution, told the court that Mr Knight was fortunate to survive. "He is still deaf and blind and his kidneys are damaged irreparably," he said in comments reported by PA. "He could well have died."
Not sure about the rest of you but I'd rather have died.

It would have to be either/or for me. Being blind and deaf would totally suck ass.

I vote dead.

I wouldn't want to be either. I love music too much to be deaf, and I couldn't look at p0rn anymore if I were blind.

j/k

I couldn't get any satisfaction out of using any of my digital stuff.

Hey, this reminds me of horrible joke:

Why is Helen Keller such a bad driver?

I would rather be blind than deaf. Being able to listen to music would be my only hope of sanity. Seeing and not hearing would be the worst.

It would depend on the extent of the damage. There're some huge medical breakthroughs when it comes to restoring sight and hearing. I'd give myself up as a guinea pig to science if I had even a small chance of getting my sight and/or hearing back.

If I had to choose, I'd choose deaf; it wouldn't be far off than what I am now.

And I guess the first thing I would do is learn to read braille. Then ASL.

What good would ASL do you if you were blind?

If the movie was any indication, Helen Keller learned by having someone sign while she felt their hands.

Yeah, but Helen Keller didn't have the advantage of having already learned to speak, read, and write. In a situation where someone became blind and deaf after having lived normally up until then it wouldn't really be necessary as they'd still be able to speak and type (assuming they learned to touch-type...). Receiving information would be tougher, but braille and other such assistive technologies should be able to take care of that.

Unless the problem were caused by some sort of massive brain damage, I imagine that we'd be able to put together some sort of technology for people who grew up sighted and hearing and then lost those senses. For example, a few years back there was a story about how they were able to hook a camera up to an electrode net on someone's tongue and let that person 'see' through their tongue. It actually worked surprisingly well, and studies showed that the brain was actually still interpreting the input through the visual cortex. So I see no reason why technologies such as these shouldn't be usable by the deaf and blind.

Why did it take this many posts for someone to recognize the greatness of that joke?
