SAN FRANCISCO -- Microsoft Corp.'s proposed $42 billion purchase of Yahoo Inc. would establish the world's largest software maker as a "strong No. 2 competitor" against online search leader Google Inc., Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said Monday.

On a side note, is Ballmer mentally ill? Seriously. He seems to be freaking out all the time.

Doesn't have to be great value. Microsoft loose $42 billion dollars down the back of their sofa most weeks.

And that 42 of your weedy yank billions not our really big UK billions anyway.
