Apple is pricing new product in Canada at par with the US - eg. Aperture 2 is $199

Aperture 2.0 is out and it's nice to see that they're pricing it in Canada at the exact same amount as in the US.
Good to see, considering the CAD$ is currently worth more than the US$.
1 US dollar = 99.5¢ CAD at the moment.
I hope this applies to all new coming Apple products here in Canada. I'd love to get a 3G iPhone for the same price as in the US (although it's tougher to gauge that since there is the contract to worry about).

I hope they'll do the same here in good-ol' Europe. Currently, the edu license of Aperture costs €199 (instead of $149!).

It's a sad reality to see how far the US Dollar has fallen.

New hardware on the other hand is still a tad more expensive here. The new iPod touch is $20 difference, not as bad as it's been in the past though.

Edu prices have been cut, too. I'd save 21 €, but wouldn't be able to upgrade (Apple, are you serious?) I've just ordered the full version, it should be here in a few days

True. FWIW though, shortly before that, the CAD$ was down to a little over 96 cents US.
So, I think the $20 difference for the iPod touch is justifiable. Furthermore, in the case of Aperture, the actual material cost to them is just a few bucks for the discs, instructions, and packaging. This is in stark contrast to the touch which has real hardware costs.
$499/$519 = 0.961
Mind you, that ratio doesn't explain why the smallest iPod touch is still $20 more.
$299/$319 = 0.937
Still, I'm happy. Close enough. Apple's hardware pricing in Canada and elsewhere in the world should be nice this year. It seems that the US's crappy dollar hasn't raised Apple's prices much for Americans, but it has meant better pricing for Apple products in many other places in the world. I note that some of the components (hard drives, etc) often come from Japan, and their Yen hasn't been doing all that well either. Design is in the US, but of course Apple employees are paid in US bux. And so are the Chinese assembly plants.

Yeah, good to know you're not getting ripped off whole most other countries are.
MacPro = $2799 in the US, $3999 in Australia.
Ridiculous. I'd be better off ordering one from the US.

Would you though? What are the taxes and duties for computer imports in AU?

No idea, they're probably extortionate. I'll just stick with using work machines.

Bah. US$49 for the new shuffle, but CAD$55 (US$54.21), or 11% more.
Oh well, only $5.21 off I suppose. I just hope their next higher priced hardware announced isn't priced 11% higher in Canada (if the conversion rates stay in the same ballpark as they are now).

Do those rates include the sales taxes? Taxation in Canada - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So, a $55 shuffle in Canada would actually cost anywhere from $57.75 to $63.25 depending on which province you lived in.

Best Buy and Future Shop both have the iPod shuffle at $49, which is the same as the US Apple Store price. At this price it's pointless to get the $45 Apple Store refurb here. Listening to my "exclusive" pink shuffle now.
