Yeah yeah, not really thread worthy but my dog died this morning. He was with my when we were in South Carolina and when we came back to Mississippi. I spent many long days with him and just enjoyed his company...I am torn on what I should do. Do I get another dog? or not?
By the way, some @$$hole ran over him and didn't have the guts to come to my door and tell me he did it.

So sorry guy, that really sucks.
Wait a few weeks before adopting another dog.

Wow, I'm sorry. I know how it feels. I had a dog a few years ago that got sick. It was almost like some sort of a flu. She died 24 hours into being sick. Vets had no clue why.
Also that kind of makes me sick that the person didn't even tell you. What's wrong with people these days?

geezus H, that sucks. I'm really sorry about your dog.
Not sure about a replacement just yet, only you can decide on what to do.
But hang in there and try to relax for a while.

I'm truly sorry with what happened to your dog. I can't believe the number of jerk-offs in this world who don't know how to drive a freakin' car. Very, very sorry for your loss. I wouldn't adopt another dog right away, as you should really spend time remembering all the great moments you've shared with your dog. Once you feel like you're ready to move on, then it should be okay to adopt a new dog.

Next time keep your dog out of the street. Build a run if you don't have a fence.

^that's a cold think to say right after he lost his pet.
Man, I'm sorry and feel for you. I've lost a number of pets over the years and its always tough. Don't think about a dog yet - its too early to decide on that. Give it some time

he had a fence along with a shock collar. So I think all the precautions were taken. We live in the country with 5 plus acres surrounded by trees. he probably was chasing after a rabbit or something and someone hit him.

Wow, thats a good age. I'm sure you had a lot of fond memories. Right now my other dog which is a sheltie is 10. She's in good shape and I hope for her to live a good long time.

I'm very sorry to hear about your dog. I've only had mine for 6 months, but I'd be broken hearted if I lost her right now. It's like losing a family member for a lot of people.
My dad nearly got me, my wife, my mom, and himself killed about 2 months ago swerving to avoid a dog. I understand that the driver might have accidentally hit your dog without it being his fault, but the least he could've done is told you about it. No one cares anymore; we're all in a hurry.

You have my deepest heartfelt condolences. Our family lost our Golden Retriever a few years ago, and decided it was best to wait a few months before getting a new puppy. It was more out of respect for Rex than anything else, but It did give us time to adjust to him not being there and eventually prepare for the responsibility of training a new pup.
The passing of a dog is always a heartbreak. Their entire life is spent in dedication to their master, and in my opinion they deserve every bit of our respect in their passing. Silly when I really think about it, but somethings just have to run their course, emotional tragedies like this are one of those things.
Deepest Simpathies,
Legendary Pink Ox

Give it 3 to 6 months and see how you feel then. That's what we did after we had to have our first GSD put to sleep. We found a breeder for the police force and got a new female GSD.
One of the best things my mother ever did.

When my dog died about 10 years ago I was really torn up about it. I kept thinking, 'it's just a dog' but that didn't matter. I was actually embarrassed about being so upset so I tried to hide it, but it stuck with me for a long time.
So, you've got my sympathy and I hope you work it out soon.

As maudlin as this sounds, after having lost 2 beautiful Golden Retrievers to cancer within one year (one was 6 the other 9) I can't bring myself to get another dog. The dread of losing it would be too great.

We're sorry to hear for your loss. Our oldest dog is a hound mutt about 10 years old, our youngest is a 4 year old Black Lab who we rescued from neglectful owners.
My 4th graders spent the week writing about service/working animals for an essay. We admire the animals and their dedicated owners and trainers.
Our hearts go out to you.

Sorry babe. That just sucks. I'm sure the person who hit him did not intend to, however, not owning up to it is raw. I'd hold out a little bit for a new dog. Just relax a bit. The reason being is you need to let go of your pal first. It is unfair to try to replace him. Once your mind is a bit more clear, a new dog will have the opportunity to be himself and not try to live up to an old standard.

Personally, I too, have chosen not to go through that pain again. For that same reason.
