Waheyyy, I joined a a year ago today! I just thought I'd share that with the community, so now you can all brag about how you've all been here about 20 years or whatever.

That makes me wonder who has the longest active membership.

Congrats, Andhee!

The "longest active member" would be kind of complicated to identify. I think a lot of the earliest people wound up changing nicks a few times along the way, so that would make tracking them down a bit of a challenge-and I don't know how to do that.

The earliest valid account I can find is tfrantz, registered May 1999. All the early accounts were imported from UBB, and are not in consecutive registration order today, so take that with a grain of salt.

If I recall, MacNN used to allow unregistered posting, so even if we had complete records, we still wouldn't know how long somebody had been here.

yeah. I used to post unregistered back in late 2000. Then finally signed up when they stopped allowing it (maybe Dec 00, Jan 01?).

I think it must have been sometime in 2001. I came here much less often back then, but I don't think I went a year between posts.

Threads like this make me feel like a real old-timer around here. The oldest accounts that I still seeing being used on a regular basis are from 1999.

I blew wind on a butterfly's wings, whose disturbance rippled outward, changing the flow of eddy currents in the upper atmosphere which acted as lenses for cosmic rays, which then focused on a hard drive at macnn's server, which flipped a bit that resulted in a post being submitted.

That was when I was in a hurry.

When I was in a leisurely mood, I simply set universal constants such that the universe evolved containing a forum named macnn, and a post within this forum containing the contents I wish it to contain.

I joined Oct. 12th, 1999

Before MacNN was cool, then became uncool, then became cool again, then uncool, then cool, then became uncool, then became cool again, then uncool, then cool, then became uncool, then became cool again, then uncool, then cool, then became uncool, then became cool again, then uncool, then cool, then became uncool, then became cool again, then uncool, then cool, then became uncool, then became cool again, then uncool, then cool, then became uncool, then became cool again, then uncool, then cool, then became uncool, then became cool again, then uncool, then cool, and it is now what it is.

Wasting my time since 1999.

P.S. Apparently the earliest join date in the thread so far, which surprises me. I know there are a bunch of spring 1999 people.

Every time I see a post like this I wonder why I didn't register when I was first introduced to macnn (by bstone) back in highschool ('99 or so). Instead I didn't register until a year and a half after I graduated.

Nope. Not only is this the only nick I’ve ever had on MacNN, it’s also the only nick I’ve had on about a dozen other forums. The only places I’ve used different nicks have been places where ‘Oisín’ was already taken, or ‘spam forums’, where I really didn’t want anyone making a connection.

There's an emacs command to do that.

True, but it takes a special combination of keystrokes that requires 11 fingers to be in use-all at once. It's daunting.

More like 25 000 more, but I lost count after numerous resets. >_>
