ps i know ram is cheaper at newegg or crucial, but i really need it today. I'm okay with spending $100 but not the $150 apple used to charge for 2 gb.

I don't think the sell stand-alone RAM upgrades in Apple Stores. You can probably purchase RAM for them to install, but if your Apple Store is anything like the ones near me you're not going to get same day service. As for price, Apple always charges a premium over the market price.

RAM can be installed by yourself in less than 5mins provided you have the proper screwdriver/tool.

If you can't install RAM yourself, you shouldn't touch a computer at all. Just IMO.

Installing memory in a MacBook is very difficult. Follow these steps for a successful updating of your memory.
First, you must make sure the power is off on your computer, and you have unplugged the computer from the AC source. You have to use a quarter or other size coin to turn the lock that holds the battery. Actually remove the battery, and store it somewhere while you complete the rest of the tasks necessary. Then you need to use a screw driver, I think a size #0 and turn the screws counter-clockwise enough turns to remove the screw threads from the threads in the holes that the screws are located in. Next you must remove the protective plate which covers and blocks the RAM module slots from the battery compartment. Now, if there are already RAM modules in the slots you must use the levers to remove the memory that is pre-installed. Set those aside for sale on eBay, but be prepared to waste you time because no one would want such small memory modules anyway, so just set them aside for when/if you computer goes bad and if it is still under warranty you will want to install the old modules so you can troubleshoot the computer and verify that it isn't the cheap memory modules you bought that are causing the problem. Or you could pretend you are a kung-fu warrior and snap the in your fingers and impress the ladies. Now, open the package that the memory modules were delivered in, make sure you touch every available metal surface possible to displace any and all static electricity that has built up while you were opening the package. Now, properly line up the RAM modules with the empty RAM slots and push like the dickens. Seriously, you will have to press harder than you think is prudent. PUSH!!! Next, line up that protective metal plate and and the screws with the screw holes. DO NOT crossthread the screws. Turn the screws clockwise (righty tighty, left loosey) until they turn no more. About 3.25 newton meters should do. Take the battery out of storage and place correctly in the battery compartment. Line it up and pop it in. Now use the coin to turn the lock for the battery.
If this seems to difficult for you, go out and find a 13 year old and they should be able to do this for you faster than you read this post.
Glad to be of help.

Oddly enough, if computer manuals were written like that I'd probably try reading them. Damn lawyers!

I had a MBP come in the other day, the owner had bought her own ram upgrade but her husband had installed it. She though the mac was pretty slow, and it was. System profiler showed only 512 Mb installed and she had bought a 2Gb stick.
I opened the RAM cover. Her husband had just undone the screws, placed the module inside and sealed it back up again!

I'm not sure this can be correct, but TODAY's Macnn front page linked to article:
MacNN | 4GB mem upgrades for new Macbooks
...that says, "WC's 4.0GB Memory Upgrade Kits are available for $100, and include two 2GB modules." ...for new MBP !
?that make your day?

An in-store after-sale memory upgrade is going to be much more expensive than the BTO options on the online store.
Order it rush/overnight from Newegg.
