as reported by espn and the various other news outlets.

It seems the packers decision not to pursue Moss was enough for Farve to hang-em up. I'm a little surprised, given his resurgent success last season. It does kind of sounds like that he may be a little upset at the packers organization for not pursuing moss and so he just gave up. I wonder if he'll change his mind when the dust settles.

As someone who doesn't follow a lot of football, it felt like a throwback season to me. The stars align, you avoid some injuries and everything goes well. At 300 years old, chances are his next season would be more likely to resemble the two before last.

Anyway, good move. It leaves a nice memory.

I presume you're not talking about high speed knitting?
Or at least not the Eastern Southern Conference of the Western North Stars of High Speed Knitters, aka ESCWNSHSK.

When even fans can't spell his name right, maybe it is time to retire?

Well since I'm not a packers fan, spelling his name correctly isn't all that high on my list.

That's pretty surprising. They have a good young team.

Maybe it's like someone said; it was a phenomenal season, so he might think he's going out "as much on top" as he'll ever be. It could be a good call.

I am so glad I'm more into chicks than watching men play with one another.

Maybe he's pulling the Strahan, just to get out of the pre-season training camp ?

Or maybe he just pronounced his own name wrong, either way he is/was a great athlete.

After watching espn for a bit, it seems almost a consensus that they believe Favre will return to football. I agree, for a person who was still extremely capable, to retire after so many years in the limelight - doesn't add up and he'll miss the excitement and unretire.

Fav-ray is quite the man. He proved himself to me for whatever that is worth. (Not much, I'm sure) I Think honestly, this is one of the better notes he could go out on. If he keeps trying for the high note, it could be embarassing.

The one thing that I wonder about is that if kept playing in his mind the NFC championship game. It didn't look like he was off his game then, but rather he looked old, and slow. Its just a thought but that could be also leading to believe as KeriVit posted to leave on a high point and not one of those guys that hung around too long and it was downright embarrassing to watch them play.

Of course retiring the day after the Pats sign moss has been fodder for the espn talking heads to imply that he was pissed that the packer organization did not pursue moss.

well the good news on this, is that it provided some interesting talk and sports shows. without football and baseball just in spring training its a little slow for me (I'm not a basketball fan).

gofridge is sad. Brett Favre no longer playing means that Brett Favre cannot continue to increase Brett Favre's record number of interceptions. gofridge was hoping that Brett Favre would throw enough interceptions so that it would be impossible for anyone to break Brett Favre's record. gofridge wants a Packer to forever have the record for interceptions.

I predict Rex Grossman will hold the "most interceptions" title before his career with the Bears is over.

Slick shoes?!! Are you crazy?!!

He won't need 13 seasons to break the record.

Playing Grossman is risky.

He might hit the Most Interceptions record in a single game.

I wouldn't say best, Unitas is probably the all-time the best QB (Montana a close 2nd). However, I don't think there's ever been a person who loved the game more than Favre. The man played the sport with a heart and passion that we'll likely never see again.
