If I'm not mistaken, this is the default background you get with Tiger.

What a novel ad scheme. I wonder if it originated with Dell or the retailer?

Good question. I would think it's a Costco thing, not a Dell thing.

Dell would be more careful. In many marketing departments, the people use Macs and like Macs, so using a OS X background might be some way of showing their preference.

Probably with the advertising department. They just apply a wallpaper onto the picture. It shows up better than trying to get a photo of the desktop.

'Shop, no doubt. My mom worked in the art department of an ad agency for over 30 years-she could do ANYTHING with images, and this was all done with cutouts, copy stands and the like. Today, it's easy as can be to do with your computer. Costco's advertising people don't have a clue about computers (they don't need one), but they did have a 15.4" diagonal measure widescreen picture sitting around... Viola!

Uh...no one's talking about Apples here, it's an oranges to oranges comparison.
