Took me sometime to get the site updated more, but as of today, pretty much have 90% of the site is updated. Next I just need to add my info to the services page. The big update today was the new "products" page.
As before, any comments on making the site look better or anything to point out, please feel free to have a look and post here in the forum about it.

Tks,
Carter

I'd start with no spamming -- that'll make it more appealing.

Not spamming.... I asked before for input on the site and helped. If you take me as spamming, please do not bother looking at the site.
As I have said before, when it comes to web pages, I know enough to get me by. So input helps. Made a number of changes last time I asked for input.
I have also changed the name of the subject to maybe help?

*sigh*
carterx, first off, I don't think you're a spammer. You've been around too long and posted too much.
However, you should read the rules and guidelines, and be a little more sensitive.
Every day, we have people posting links and asking for opinion, but it's basically spam.
Your post looks and smells like one of these.

Tks for the heads up.
I don't not want to be looked at that I'm trying to spam.
Think it's easier if I remove this topic.

Frankly, it doesn't really look like spam to me at all. The guy who posted it is a regular member, and he's just looking for feedback on his site. Since we have a bunch of designer types around here, it doesn't seem like such an unreasonable thing to ask for advice regarding the design of a site.
It's not like he registered just to post that link to his site.

The text in some of your images (‘Your Personalized Mac Support’, ‘Certified Desktop Technician’, ‘Certified Portable Technician’) is too blurry for my taste, looks ugly and therefore draws my attention to it rather than your content. The last bit also sounds rather funny, like you're advertising yourself as being portable.

One more voice that did not see this as spam- he's asked for input before- in fact lots of people do- on websites, photos, etc.
I'm not a designer, but in my opinion, I would tighten up to text on the home page- too much white space. I'm not advocating clutter, just compact things a bit
Most of the follow-on pages left margins is too tight, at least on firefox on windows.
I would add links to the certifications to show they mean something.

Paco is bitter about the loss of his .mac webpage. Image will return when his sadness lessens.

One last thing- and this is just me- but I would leave off the services link until you have content.

I will look at making the text in the logo a bit bigger or at least a bit more readable.
As for being portable, yes, I want to get into house calls or business calls. I have already been doing this a little bit and I have been asked to do so. Think that's what I need to clear up in the services page.

Once back home this eve, I'm going to sit down to try and better word the front page and as you said need to clean up the dead white space and look at moving the text from the left enough to give it some space.
Links to the certifications is a great idea

Good point. I can do that now.
Thanks,

Not a website suggestion, but a services suggestion. I would advertise if you have some expertise- windows -> migration services and cross platform interaction- including intergrating Macs into corporate Windows environemnts. I would think there would be some real demand for these services form someone that knew what they were doing.
Also, as they are pretty damned popular- some kind of iPod support services.

The about page needs some margins, the text is running off the edges of your container (ff 2.0 OSX)

Good idea. Will sit down and come up with what I can offer other than your regular service work.

Tried to have a look at it today. Will wait until I get home to have a better look.
Could not find out how to adjust it, add a table or something to move it. I messed with the padding and margins but did nothing.
The site I got from Open Source Web Design and made my own changes. Some parts I seem to not be able to figure out for making adjustments.

My Suggestion: Download RapidWeaver.
Perfect, template driven web sites every time. Ideal for peeps who can't code.

Another vote for reapidweaver, it will add more polish to your site with a minimum amount of work.
Another suggestion, is to get your own domain and not have it hosted on spymac. Looks a little amateurish

Hey Carter,
I only had a few seconds to look it over, but a few comments:
1) On your logo the text "Your Personalized Mac Support" needs redone. To small, to fuzzy.
2) I would change the "Certified Portable Technician" to something more like "Certified Laptop Technician".
3) On your about page, you definitely need to add a margin around the main content. You don't need tables to do this. Just find the <div> that it is wrapped in and use CSS to add a margin or padding to it.
4) On your about page, watch your grammar and spelling. Your first sentence:
First I would like to welcome everyone to "Mactech.ca" and my name is Matthew Carter and I'm located in the Dartmouth (Halifax Regional Area), Nova Scotia, Canada.
...is a really bad run on sentence. It should read something more like:
I would like to welcome everyone to "Mactech.ca". My name is Matthew Carter and I'm located in Dartmouth (Halifax Regional Area), Nova Scotia, Canada.
In your second paragraph you have:
4) On your products page, even up the distribution of white space. You have a small space between your logo and the section that starts with "To place an order...", then a large gap before your products table. It looks uneven to me.
5) On your Contact page, I think you should center the header ("Contact"). There is so little page content that it looks weird left justified, with your contact info centered.
Hope that helps!

Regarding the "Certified Portable Technician" change that you suggested...Apple has strict guidelines as to what you can post to show that you are certified by them and you cannot change the word portable to laptop due to this.

How about "Certified Mobile Technician" ?
Sounds better than portable, IMO.
