Wow, read an interesting article in the German news outlet Der Spiegel about the indirect cost of producing gold.

In this interview, mining expert Keith Slack states some amazing facts.

E.g., to produce the gold needed for an average marriage band, about 20 tons of waste is produced

The main issue seems to be that Cyanide is ussed to separate gold from the rocks.
About 182,000 tons cyanide is being use to extract gold.

Wow.

Given the environmental burden, gold should probably cost even more than it does today.

Good luck trying to get full-cost accounting on this one. Extractive industries especially are structured to make profits by pushing the cleanup onto the rest of society. This kind of socialism and corporate welfare is the bedrock of the global economy.

This is why gay marriage must be opposed - just think of the consequence of all those additional wedding rings!

Best argument I've heard yet.

"Specific knowledge on a topic usually demonstrates in-depth knowledge."
