Are you one of those people who have to have the whole album, even if you only buy it for one song and the rest are just so-so, or is your library a gleaning together of your favorite songs with numerous albums having only 1 or 2 tracks?

Good God, no.

Being forced to do this was one of the reasons I used to consider stealing music to be civil disobedience.

The second Apple offered a way to get it's DRMed music onto my stereo (Airport Express) I was ecstatic to be finally offered a reasonable alternative to theft.

Whole albums.

If I like a song by an artist, I most often like more songs by them. There are a couple albums I have where I don't like a song or two, but not many.

Plus, I don't buy music from iTunes Music Store. Why pay more for less?

Why pay for the whole album if you only like one or two songs? That's quite a common situation with todays popular music. And that's where my iTunes Store purchases are. It's great for that.

If I like the whole album then I buy the CD.

I'm in the favorite songs camp too, but I am still having OCD issues with 1 track "albums" in my library. How do you get around that? I sometimes put the artist's name for albums, but this is merely changing the problem, not solving it, since that's not the album either.

And I the only one with iTunes formatting OCD issues?

I don't do iTMS.

I always import the whole CD, then make a smart playlist or two (i.e. "best", "good", "good which I haven't heard for two months").

iTunes Music Store, the thing you're talking about (since the topic appears to have little relevance to iTunes the software).

For me, it depends on the artist. For instance, I instantly bought the entire Jack Johnson album the moment it was released (and disappointed, by the way). But a band like Glisten, I just bought two songs from them today because I don't know much about them.

I still like CDs, but it's nice to be able to download a song legally from the iTunes Store without leaving my couch.

I rip whole CDs and throw away the parts I don't like.
I know, I'm a freak.

I appreciate your OCD in this regard. Private polls are for wimps.

What's the difference between a private and public poll?

I keep whole albums for almost everything, and then have a playlist of singles. I for some reason like listening to an album in it's entirety. When I listen to music I intend to listen for awhile, and like to pick an album or such that has the same feel all the way though. I don't do mix CDs very often.

So either I have good taste in artists and they all make good full albums. Or I have bad taste, and get use to the rest of the album?

I voted whole album, but I *never* buy an album for just one song. I only buy albums from artists that I like, and I enjoy every single album I own.

All glory to the hypnotoad.

I usually buy just the song, but sometimes I'll purchase the whole album if there are enough good tracks on it. Otherwise $9.99 is a lot of money for just a couple of songs to listen to - a single track is much more efficient.

I don't really listen to bands that can't produce an entire album worth listening to.

It depends. Nowadays, all my music come from the iTunes store. If I like more than half the songs from the album (judging those 30 seconds preview), I will likely to hit buy album. Sometimes, I have to buy the whole album since it's listed as album only.
