Rescued dog. 100 lb, 15 month old puppy:

The cats tolerate her. They don't hit the dog, they just hiss at her.

Cross between some sort of Mastiff and a Rottweiler. Much more heavy set than a ridgeback. Shorter snout too.

We have to be very stern with her at times. Both Mastiffs and Rottweilers can be overprotective if people come visiting, and she can show some of that if we're not firm with her.

Thx! First dog, so it's quite the foray into dogdom, given her size (and breeds).

Hmm... Makes me wonder if there isn't some ridgeback blood in the gal. (We're not 100% sure she's just Mastiff and Rottweiler.)

P.S. Your sis reminds me of Jacqueline McKenzie.

Dachshunds are VERY stubborn and hard to train.. But once you get past the training they are awesome little dogs.

Eug, you seem to have a gem there. Rescue dogs are almost always great-they know they have it great (now), and their only problem is a fear that you'll "spontaneously combust" or something and not be there to take care of them.

My rescue: Silver, with Sam, the cat

We figure Silver has a significant amount of Norwegian Elkhound in him. He's all fluff and love though.

Beautiful dog! I love lab mixes, in high school I had a lab/golden retriever mix that had to be put to sleep the summer before I left for college because he bit the paper boy.

Heh. Not her sleeping spot. She just goes there when I'm working in the home office, just to hang out.

BTW, she really seems to like our couches. I'm not so keen with her there, esp. with the fabric ones, cuz her hair sticks like crazy glue. I'll get her one or two of those doggie mini-couch beds, perhaps something like this:

So, how do I keep her off the people couches? I saw this ScatMat thing, but I dunno.

My sis suggested something similar, but which puts out a high-pitched noise dogs don't like.

Of course, I'm sure you guys will just tell me to let her have the couches...

P.S. If there's a little too much of that going on with your dog, perhaps you can get one of these.

I'd have to get it for the cat.

And I have a feeling he'd wonder "why isn't this one cleaning out my ears with its tongue?"

Apple, getting ready to go to church:

And bounding around like a deer:

And when she was a puppy, looking like a rabbit:

I've already posted my favorite pictures of her from this set in other threads around here. It's already close to overkill.

She is very, very nice around us. She continues to bark at guests, but now after a minute she's fine and plays happily.

However, she is very, very aggressive towards other dogs. This is gonna take a lot of work, but given that she's already 16 months old, I'm not sure how much of it we will be able to train out of her. Part of the problem is probably related to the fact that the previous owner had her in an apartment, and didn't really socialize her with other dogs.
