what do you say?
You think Batman is hard to defend? Really? The same Batman who is a millionaire playboy? The one who can anticipate and counteract your next move before you make it? That Batman?

I'll answer.

Batman.

End of story. Batman is tricky enough, and Superman is gullible enough, that Bruce could totally snooker him with kryptonite then beat him to a pulp.

Oh, whatever! Superman is a prince and wears blue tights and a big yellow belt. Beat that!

3 reasons Batman is better.

1. He has a dark side that is impossible to achieve with a bright blue/red/yellow outfit.
2. He doesn't need/require any superpowers.
3. Would you rather your alter ego be an awkward reporter or a billionaire playboy?

[EDIT] In the interest of full disclosure, I believe it's worth noting that the alter ego comparison is ripped straight from the pages of FoxTrot.

Batman.

Though the keeping of young, male, wards is kind of dubious.

Superman - no doubt.

Come on guys: flying, X-ray vision, heat vision, super strength, super speed, and only vulnerable to ONE thing (kryptonite). Who wouldn't want that?

Compare to Batman: relies on gadgets to do things, can't fly, "normal" human strength, can be shot, knifed, throw off a roof, etc. The only reason Batman keeps himself alive is because his opponents are inept.

Who cares about alter-egos? Superman could be rich if he wanted to be...

Besides, Superman would kick Batman's ass in a straight-up fight.

One word: gadgets.

Batman has more toys. And he who dies with the most toys wins, right?

Batman wins.

Superman is SO lame. There is nothing imaginative about the character, he's totally boring, and totally closeted.

Superman is boring because he can't be beat other then by a green rock. Batman is cool cuz he is a rich guy with mental problems and lots of cool toys.

Some of you are talking at cross purposes. Batman or Superman what? Are you asking who would win if they fought, or who is the more interesting character?

Id like to see a side by side comparison of the villians they have fought and beat... perhaps we can choose by the winner by the strength of their foes.

Batman does have a cool car, a cool boat, a chopper... what else?

But Superman can alter the rotation of the earth and lift really heavy things.
He's probably super hung too.

Superman. Batman needs to run all the way home just to get changed. Superman solves the problem before Batman gets his tights on.

Of course, Marvel has 3x the number of cool characters that DC does.

It's not cool just to have a caricature where you keep adding more and more godlike powers. Superman is a character of a comic book 'character'. He's totally uninteresting. Make a mistake? Turn back time! Come on.

I think we need to understand what the thread title means, and which version of Superman/Batman we're talking about here.

If Batman is the funky '60s Adam West version, I'm so there.
If Superman is the '50s version or 70's... all right, so he's boring...

But I think we need to sort out Robin "The Boy Wonder" 's true role in this.

Exactly.

I'd much prefer an insomniac who is constantly brooding and agonizing over his rough past. Much more interesting.

Almost every comic hero is derived from Superman (and the Phantom). Batman is just a gimped version of Superman with darker colors and a funny mask.

It's flaws that give characters depth. Superman's lack of them physically or mentally is what makes him as interesting as cardboard. Where you see Batman as gimped, I see him as human.

Batman is interesting because people can relate on some level. No one can relate to Superman.

Anyway, I thought Superman's father sent him to earth because, you know, if he stayed he would have died like the rest of the Kryptonians.
