Anybody got a Segway? Or driven one?

I'd like to have one, especially the off road model, but the price is still too steep for something I really don't need.
If you have one, or if you've driven one, share your experience.

They make an off road model? The center of gravity would seem to me to be too high to be an effective off road vehicle.
I've only seen a handful from time to time. Either in some malls or amusement parks. They seem more "geewhiz look what I can do" technology, rather then a useful product..

My Wife and I took a trip to Disneyland a couple weeks ago, and they had a Segway deal going on in Tomorrowland. We both got to ride one for about 3 minutes.
They're fun, and a little wobbly at first. My first impression is that it was more difficult than I expected, but it takes about 30 seconds to get used to.
There's a company locally here that takes you out on a tour to ride one. My Wife said we can go for my birthday.

I'd like the Segway more if it some flames and skulls painted on it.
Seriously, they are too expensive for my tastes, and I already have expensive tastes.
Maybe if it were less than 2K.
I saw one on Amsterdam avenue the other day, it was moving pretty quick and was agile, but somewhat dorky looking.

I rode one around a few years ago when the Electrical Engineering department had an open house. If you do buy one, prepare to be ridiculed by everyone that wishes they could afford one, too.

I was at Schiphol Airport last week and whilst I was at my gate, a couple of police officers came zooming up the big long corridor to the end, turned around and zoomed back again. Careful surveillance or just having fun. You decide.

Over $5K US for a basic i2 model No wonder they never came even remotely close to their sales goals (when they launched in 2001, they were predicting sales of 40K units a year - in 8 years, they haven't even sold that many units in total).
A lot of hype, very little substance, IMO.

You're thinking too small. Not only would the wanna be crowd ridicule him, but others (like me) who have no desire to buy one would ridicule him

To be sure this was over-hyped. I remember when they were generating all of the excitement of this next big thing. They were talking how cities would be redesigned by this revolutionary invention. Talk about a let down when they showed off a scooter.
In all seriousness, I cannot see this being operated safely in any city. The sidewalks are crowded with pedestrians, and the streets are even worse with cars. I'm not surprised by it flopping, what I am shocked at is that the company is still producing them.

I rode on one a few years back for about 10 minutes around campus. A buddy of mine got it as a gift. Once the novelty wore off, he sold it.
