Well, last night I was taking out the trash and stumbled and thrust my little toe into a railing. I heard it crack and new from that instant it was broken. The little toe is at about a 15˚ angle from the next toe. I had an Xray done anyway today to be sure, and yep it was broken.Anyway, I've got it taped to the next toe to straighten it out. I can't lift weights for the next 6 weeks which really sucks. Also, the drive to school this morning was incredibly painful. My Accord is in the dealer having a recall taken care of so they gave me an old Civic to drive, and it's stick. I get my car back tomorrow, thank God. Anything I can do to help it heal faster? I'm trying to stay off of it as much as possible, but it's pretty hard to do that.

In the mean time, stop pulling your nose with that little toe. That's all I can say.

Yeah, that's the reason I can't lift weights too.

Walk on it. Really. Stressing a bone helps it rebuild, just like weight bearing exercises help strengthen bones. Keep it clean (as in untape, wash thoroughly, DRY thoroughly, then retape), and pay attention if anything changes drastically, like it goes from that "healing bruise" color to "new bruise" color-you need to see a doctor for that.

I broke the middle toe on my right foot in a similar manner; I now only have two joints in that toe-where it joins the foot, and the very end. It's kinda sensitive to major weather changes too. And while the little toe has less affect on walking than the other toes, it IS useful because it provides grip and thrust in each push-off step (which imitchell is finding out right now...). You don't want to lose any toes for any reason.

You would think but I had surgery on my little toe when I was a kid. Now my little toe is useless - it doesn't even touch the ground.

I run and I've found that w/o that little guy, it affects my gate, more pressure seems to be applied to the outside of my foot so while it does appear useless, it does impact walking/running.

<nitpicky correction> It's "gait", not "gate." It does make a difference. </nitpicky correction>

Yep, all the toes are part of the foot's function. Losing toes or their function may seem to be a minor thing, but it's not, not by a long shot.

I'd rather have my car back then have a broken toe. I can't stand little Civics at this altitude, too under powered.

Well, I guess it's good that I can't sit around on it then I never really appreciated the little toe until I broke it, just that little thing being unusable makes it so much harder to walk and do stuff that I would normally enjoy doing.

Well, to satisfy the hunger for pictures of ouch-y toes, here's a picture of mine, which I almost broke a few weeks ago. Luckily it wasn't broken but according to my therapist, it's most likely partially broken. It remained yellow/purple for many days and it still hurts today if I put too much pressure on it.

Please don't mind my ugly big toe, that's a long story
