Kind of a crazy story. Can't say I like it either. The logo is not even close.

That story would be better if they showed the logos.

You are right, Apple has got a bit of nerve here...

The New York logo will cause "consumer confusion resulting in damage and injury" to Apple, and will "cause dilution of the distinctiveness" of Apple's trademark, the company said in a challenge filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Well, I guess it is their turn.

Maybe they figure there's no such thing as bad publicity.

The worst part is that it's not even another company trying to use Apple's reputation to make some quick bucks, it's for a recycling campaign for NYC. It think this will eventually backfire at them.

Don't they have to defend their trademarks or else lose them?

Trademarks are based on specific categories. The Big Apple is a city, not a computer or computer company. I think Apple is wrong. They don't own apples.

Apple does NOT want to be associated with anything green.

Apple does have a long history of zealously defending their trademarks. Seems a little nit picky to me, though. The logo's are very different and the business are in two different sectors so a consumer will not get confused which is the gist of why apple filing the lawsuit.

That never stopped Apple Corps from suing Apple Computer, Inc.

Thats because their logos were similar and at the time of the initial settlement apple computer agreed not to get into the music business, which as you know they did. That of course then prompted the second lawsuit.

Apple Corps only brought challenged Apple Computer when they brought iTunes music into play with the apple logo.

I suspect that's at least part of the reason.

IMO, due to the "look" of the small leaf on top of the Apple, Apple needs to defend a copyright. If the little leaf was not there maybe not such a huge issue? I don't see Apple having issues with NYC. Mike needs to step up to the plate, change it, and move on.

NYS has lost 20% of it's Tax Revenue from NYC in the past 3m. Let's try and be nice Mike.

I don't think that copyright means what you think it means.
