That usually happens at the very beginning of a task or readout. Lastnight my Macbook battery had 10 hours remaining when I booted up! Not seen it at that stage of a task though.

Look after my manor, or I will bum you, literally, to death.

My MacBook keeps doing that, it's always exactly 10:00 hours. Nothing compared to the 236:45 hours I'd get on the iBook though.

I had a Mac once where it would lose count of files when you were copying, and about halfway through it would reach "0 files left to copy" and then keep going until it would wind up at "-1056 files left to copy" or so.

Fun Fact: 2^32 seconds = a little over 136 years. They're using an unsigned 32-bit integer to store the number of seconds remaining, and for some reason when you took that screenshot that integer was at or near its max value.

I made a little app on April Fool's Day that made fun of the way Mac progress bars often work (link), but it didn't get a lot of attention.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!
