We're pretty far into the John Adams miniseries on HBO at this point, so who likes it, who doesn't, and who doesn't care?
I like it, for one.

I like it. It's not amazing or anything, but it is pretty interesting. I would have liked to see more of the fascinating stuff that was going on back in the states rater then watching john Adams accomplish nothing in Europe, but hey, it's his story.
I'm looking forward to the rest. I've only seen the first 4 so far. Episode 5 is waiting on my TiVo.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the story missing out while he's in Europe. No ratification debates, nothing. Perhaps they could have briefly shown (10 or 15 minutes worth) of what was going on while he was gone. The next installment looks good.

I've been enjoying this show, though there have been some curiously laggy moments (perhaps to clarify John's closeness to his wife).
Definitely a good program that's not too dumbed down.

Yeah, I think they spend too much time on his wife. Probably to try and appeal to women viewers.
I would have liked to see more of the Revolutionary War and any of the ratifying of the Constitution.

The appeal to women viewers would be zero if not for the cuddling. Though my gf falls asleep a few minutes past the opening credits anyway.
And it seems that the entire Revolutionary War lasted about an hour. I think that more time should've gone to the Constitution as well, but then it wouldn't have been called John Adams - it would've been called "1776", I suppose.

I'm enjoying it, though I'm a few episodes behind. The Ben Franklin characterization is terrific.

been catching up with it. first hbo/showtime series i've been watching from week to week. it's been tough not being able to just marathon them.
i love it. and i'm loving the casting of giamatti as adams. as for the lack of conversations about what was going on while he was in europe- that's kinda the point, this is a biopic and it just works more to underline the fact of just how bad the communication was over the atlantic at the mies.

I wanted to watch it, and set it up on the TiVo with the intent of dumping it onto my computer for storage. That way I could watch it when I wanted without it clogging up the TiVo, should it take me a couple months to get around to it.
Then I find out HBO is DRMed.

I'd like to see it, but no cable. It's not available for download anywhere. I'm also curios about the series called Revolution from the History Channel ( I think).
We see them all after the fact it seems. Borrowed from the library, friends, or purchased Battlestar Galactica, Deadwood, Rome, and recently purchased The Tudors.
I assume John Adams is not as violent or sexual as any of the above mentioned shows.

As far as violence and sex goes, John Adams is tame compared to any normal HBO drama. There's some sweaty depiction of sexual interaction between Mr. and Mrs. Adams, but nothing is seen; there is some blood but not that much.

No, they have it. It's the TiVo that isn't compatible with it.
If my choice is to give up the TiVo or wait for John Adams on DVD, I'll wait.

Actually, his wife was pretty central to his life, historically. Their letters are preserved and depict a very engaged and intelligent woman who helped to shape a lot of his views.
Some of the history is inaccurate, but it's pretty decent. For instance, there was no engagement at sea with a British vessel. And he came home from Europe for a stint while it is depicted as one long absence in the show. Several of his children also accompanied his wife to Europe when she went. Pretty good portrayal overall though.
And who knew Ben Franklin was such a slut?
