Every interview I have seen/read/heard with John Sculley (Apple's Ex-CEO), my skin has crawled. He is such a myopic, no-talent bag of smashed glass.

If there is anyone on this planet I dislike without ever meeting them, he is one. I found this interview, I believe done some 2 years ago, sometime in 2006. Listen how abrupt and rude he is, "Nope, I don't get into that." He has this controlling approach to social situations and it is all one sided. When HE wants to laugh, he laughs. When HE wants to talk about something, he does. Spent too much time as a CEO. He just runs over the interviewer. I would have hung up on him. He is more geeky and detached than Bill Gates ever was, or will ever be.

Also, from everything said in that interview, he clearly respects Jobs and realized it was a mistake for Apple to let him take the helm. And, the fact he won't talk about being in touch with Steve Jobs, clearly he has been, and seems to sort of admire and look up to Jobs.

Excellent advice; seems like a lot of wasted negative energy expended, for someone who has no affect on one's own life.
Why is there always money for war, but none for education?

However, your rant has not been without purpose. I have now adopted the term "bag of smashed glass" as a high-level insult, to be used only when other, lesser insults just aren't harsh enough. Thank you so very much!

Seriously, Sculley left for a reason. He's been gone for a long time, and anything he has to say about Apple is not only 15 years old, it's through his own filter. At this point in time, who gives a rat's naked tail what he thinks or says?

That is good.

I've thought a couple of time about starting an "your best insults" thread, but never have. I may do that later today. I'm sure MacNNers have some excellent ones.

I can't fathom why Jobs lacked the confidence to be CEO and on top of that brought a no-talent suit like Sculley in in the first place.

I imagine it was image related. Make the company look more professional or relevant by having an established business man at the top rather than an upstart/rebel like Jobs.

I would've preferred the name John the 'doody head' Sculley, but I have nothing against the man.

There are plenty of current jerks to complain about.

A recent jerk:

Not that I don't want him to stay at Apple and keep pushing out products until he dies, but still.

I know Sculley is long past, blah blah. I just posted to see if anyone else shares my enthusiasm for the man, and maybe, just maybe, someone was interested in hearing the 2006 interview. And if you like bag of smashed glass, you will love this variant:

Bag of smashed axxholes. You can use it, for instance, as follows: "I feel like a bag of smashed axxholes."

"Assholes" would be even better.

"'Jelly Hat' sounds silly," I told Prince. "How about something poetic, like 'Raspberry Beret.'"

How was Sculley a jerk in that interview? That was one of the most self-effacing interviews I've ever heard. The whole thing basically boiled down to "Steve is the master, I'm not worthy."

He should have at least taken credit for some of the cool things that came out during his watch, like HyperCard, the Newton, or the original PowerBook design. It wasn't all bad.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

I wasn't really feeling the jerk vibe from Sculley in that interview either. After about 7 minutes, I was so underwhelmed by his supposed repugnance that I stopped listening.

Sculley? Come on, that was a long long time ago. Apple is a completely different corporation then it was back then.

Yeah. I was expecting much worse having read some of his print interviews. This was not bad at all, and you can tell that he really gives all credit to Steve, and admitted that he was basically along for the ride and was totally f*cked after Steve left.

Charlton Heston? Come on, that was a long long time ago. Why is anyone still talking about him?
