I'm not sure how that undermines my point that critical acclaim probably indicates some merit.

Well, it seems common knowledge that Grammy "awards" reflect sales performance, not critical acclaim, so Frank Farian probably deserved that one on account of 30 million singles and 14 million albums.
(Even though it was somewhat understandably revoked, despite the fact that substituting band members for recording - often enough without their knowledge - has been common production technique for the past forty-some years.)

That reminds me, I really meant to reply to this thread. Great movie, even though the ending was poor/random. It seemed like near the end of the movie the writer tried to break-off from a predictable plot, took a left turn, but really had no where to go. Despite that, I loved the early panoramas (made me think a Leone), the minimalist dialogue and scoring, and lastly, the motif (I can't recall the last time I saw a movie set in the late 70s/early 80s in the Southwest). I think the motif was a huge part of the movie.
