remember that time our fav. site had "hosting problems"
how hard is it to backup? what kinds of hosts are these.

What are you asking? Backing files up is easy is on the basic end, and more difficult the more complex and redundant you need your backup system to be.

It depends on your web host. Some do it more religiously then others. Many of the cut rate hosts do the bare minimum while other more expensive web hosts take protecting their customer's data serious.
At the very least you could do a database dump of your forum and d/l but I suspect that would be quite large but that's an option. Also many hosts allow you to initiate a backup on your own either for free or for a small fee.

guys guys... i'm talking about macnn....
am i the only one getting this error?
one of our hosting providers has suffered a power outage last night that has caused rendering problems with our sites.
ValueWeb, whose backup servers are not functioning properly, has only partially restored services and has been unable to resolve the issues
in a timely manner (or provide access to critical data or backups after more than 16 hours). We apologize for the issues and
are looking for longer term solutions, which we expect to implement immediately
???
are do ya'll not frequent the main site anymore... just the forums?

First off you'll be better off puting this in the feedback forum instead of the lounge and secondly, I totally misunderstood your post. Sorry.
btw I have not see this error and I do pop by the main site.
Edit: I see it now. Looks like one of the ads is failing not a MacNN server

It's not worth it. The sticking point is the inclusion of Mac games. Though they should probably just be included as part of the applications forum. At which point the Gaming forum looks a little more watered down and the point of it being separated from the Lounge proper comes into question again.
