Is it just me or is it patently obvious that David isn't a Mac user... I thought he was... He makes a few good points but mostly I think he's trying to be the "first" at critiquing the new iPhone and going for the shotgun method...

IPhone 2.0: What Might Have Been - Pogue’s Posts - Technology - New York Times Blog

There’s still no user-swappable battery
who buys additional batteries other than the annoying guy at at best buy who wants me to buy them? a car charger is plenty- always has been for every phone I've had.

physical keyboard...
That's why I want an iPhone not a blackberry

copy-and-paste function... ok this might be good- but I'm not losing sleep yet...

memory card slot... or how about a 3.5 floppy drive?

video recording- ok this might be cool- and a flash

Bluetooth stereo audio... yeah and no dolby digital pro logic either (who cares!)

That said I totally get what he says about the G3. It's obvious Apple fell under market pressure here.

Heh heh, I can guarantee he's been using Macs longer than you have.

David Pogue is a Mac user. He's just not a Mac zealot. He is not one to come up with reasons why flaws and missing features in Apple products make them "better."

And all of the gripes he listed regarding the new iPhone are legitimate.

Dude learn to read. He wasn't saying those are his complains but the reaction from SOME people.

"Brokenhearted Apple watchers wasted no time in bemoaning all the missing features that remain unaddressed: "

Geez.

David Pogue is a writer with repetitive stress injury to his hands/wrists.

Because of this injury and because of the woeful state of dictation software on Macintosh for many years, David Pogue does his writing composition on Windows computers.

He makes his money talking about Apple, Macintosh, and so on, but he is absolutely a Windows PC user. It will be interesting to see if MacSpeech (which replaced iListen) will change his habits.

Copy and Paste is actually a real missing feature. Hard to see how they'd get around to adding it through. Perhaps swoosh over the text, then draw a C? Maybe? Bluetooth audio is a dumb feature request, I know someone with an HTC touch who was all oh ha yah way better than an iPhone. And I'm like no... and he's like yah well mine has Bluetooth stereo, and I run sling box over the network to stream my music, and he's saying all this stuff. And I'm like dude that must kill your battery! And he's like yah that's why I have two! And I'm like... wow you're like a list of things apple would hate to see their customers doing!

But then again this is the same guy who had previously been running a Kyocera palm based phone.
