I've watched Ironman and the new Hulk (both very good) -- I'm fascinated by this MARVEL universe, where is the best place to start? Comic Books?

Anyone have any suggestions on what order to read?

Marvel's Essential comic compilations are a pretty safe bet.

Go to your local book store and ask for some help. If they don't jump at the chance, go elsewhere till you find a good one. Avoid major book stores as they may have the stock but not the knowledge to get you started.

That said, I still prefer DC for the most part.

it's tough to just jump in. I wouldn't start just reading comics because you won't know what the hell is going on. Maybe peruse wikipedia articles on Marvel characters to get a background. start with the x-men and you'll see how everything is related

Lol@wikipedia. Go to a comic book store and tell them you want to jump in and get some recommendations. Pick up an anthology or two, especially from the golden age and enjoy.

I have a walking, authoritative encyclopedia in my best friend. He literally bought most of the Marvel comics when they originally came out. "Why did they do that?" "Oh, that's because back in '82, there was this big..." He can go into amazing detail on the most trivial facts of the Marvel and DC universes. It's amazing. And a little more than I want to deal with...

2000 AD shouldn't be left out !!! Some great characters and for most of the time, the art work was/is brilliant.

While Dredd gets all the attention, I actually liked Rogue Trooper. ABC Warriors was also pretty good.
