I realize she is 50 and isn't wearing makeup, but this is a pretty extreme case of the disparity between appearances and reality that exists in celebrity culture, and an eye-opening perspective on a celebrity who promotes herself as a sex symbol.

Don't use a "worst possible case" photo as a comparison. The lighting in that paparazzi shot is (typical for paparazzi) atrocious, she's in mid-blink, and actively holding two items (causing the enhanced definition in her arms). And don't knock 50... With luck you'll make it there someday and hope other people will still think you look tolerable.

I'm staring down that number in about 9 months...

Flash-lit snapshots are just excruciatingly brutal.

I don't think I've ever managed more than a handful that didn't make even great-looking people look really awful, unless they were posing.

The "enhanced definition in her arms" has nothing to do with the tiny cellphone, and everything to do with the fact that she works out a lot, has muscular arms, and appears to be turning anorexic or something. All "skin and veins"

Well, there is a reason why Hard Candy hasn't been selling well. She isn't a sex symbol at all, no more than someone like Britney Spears. She's just someone who happened to be hot, ruined everything, and is now physically paying for it while trying to relive their former glory.

That doesn't make sense, because the in-your-face-assholes-here's-your-****-disco album she released just before Hard Candy sold like crazy - contrary to the one before that, which was somewhat less mainstream, as well.

And she wasn't really much younger when "Confessions" was released and promoted.

It sold well for the first week, but it was easily forgotten and left behind. Britney's latest album sold a lot more, especially her hit single "Gimme More." Madonna's single (4 Minutes, I think) with JT wasn't even on the iTunes top ten for too long.

Her new album is terrible. Absolutely terrible.

It's nothing but completely generic and forgettable dance music. Bad dance music too.

Her last album was at least interesting dance music. I wonder what happened? The difference in quality is huge.

She probably has new song writers or something.

I would buy her entire collection if she nailed two paparazzi. All of it, from day one. Maybe the paparazzi might start giving people a little distance.
